How do I rip this video?

Is there a way to download videos from news stations?

Just as an example;

Annual Business Expo Held At Grand Traverse Resort and Spa - Northern Michigan's News Leader

I know there are websites like keepvid.com that allow you to download them from sites like youtube and vimeo but is there any way to download them from a private server?

EDIT: sorry if this is posted in the wrong section. I'm not sure where to post it.

    I'll assume that you have a legal/ethical intent here (ie if the video is for your own personal use to watch when you're offline). If so, this is how you do it...

    You first have to find the URL of the actual video file. Sometimes it can be found by looking in the source code of the page (right-click on the page and 'view source'). Once in the source code, click 'Edit' > 'Find' and search for common video formats like '.mp4' and '.flv'. You're looking for any links that have a video file at the end of the URL (ie www.somewebsite.com/blahblahblah/somevideo.mp4).

    Sometimes though the direct link to the video can't be found in the source code, and you have to do a little detective work to find it (such as in the example video you posted). In that case, you can almost always find it by using Firebug (install Firebug, then open it up on desired webpage and begin video playback, then in Firebug click the 'Net' tab, then the 'Media' sub-tab, and it will show you the exact URL of any currently playing videos).

    Once you have the exact URL, plug it into your browser. Then once the video starts playing back, right-click on it and choose 'Save video'.

      What browser are you using?

      I've got an extension called 'FVD Downloader' for Chrome that can download any media that I play on a page. You can get the extension for Chrome, Firefox etc.

      Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

      Thanks for the info bud. Yeah I have the rights. The video was of a client of mine and we're using it for various marketing campaigns. The news station just took forever to release the .mp4 file to me. But as soon as I posted this thread they sent the download link ... go figure :rolleyes:

      Anyway, thanks for the help. Appreciate it.

    If you have Firefox, you can use this plugin FlashAndVideo Add-On (not an affiliate link).
