In my experience, paid, targeted traffic has always converted best. However, blindly dishing out dollars could be ineffective and costly. I suggest you learn some methods for advertising on FaceBook, AdWords, and others. There are many products available that will teach you the ropes. Do a little searching on Google and also here in the WSO section.

Facebook ads is my preferred source. Build up a fan page means consistent traffic as well.

With Facebook you can target your audience ... and while that seems easy, it does take some testing. I prefer sending FB ad traffic via a Facebook property such as a status update link which goes directly to my site. Fangates work great as well, especially for getting fans and email subscribers.

Master Facebook and you'll have tons of traffic. Same goes for any source. YouTube can be huge traffic with good videos and using the link annotation feature.

    Article syndication can be excellent.

Pinterest for the right niches can be a terrific flow of traffic also.

All methods build on one another, including buying banner ads and PPC. You get better and better at it with practice. Social platforms and article syndication build up as you build up a following and/or a publisher network. The more you plug away at it, the more traffic you get until you get to the point where you can generate thousands of visitors very, very quickly ... and that's where you want to get to.

In my opinion, when it comes to making money online there is no fast way to do it. No matter what ANYONE says, SEO is GOD when it comes to online marketing. It's a skill that takes a while to learn, but once you get it, its like a license to print money.

So many people outsource their seo and never take the time to learn it, its a MONSTER skill to have. If you are going to invest in any type of online marketing education, make SEO it.

      Yes, and no.

I've been doing nothing but SEO since 2007.

What's great is that you can spend a couple of weeks building a site, and make money from it for a couple of years.

But it can be up and down to put it mildly, because every time Google sneeze, cough or fart your sites can suffer.

You just have to (begrudgingly) embrace the changes and start again.

My SEO tactics now ..... find a niche, choose the keywords, and write good content ..... that's it!

Having said all that, I'm starting on paid traffic now.

Being at the mercy of Google is not something I enjoy

Free method would be creating a website with very high quality content then doing guest posts, article syndication, forum advertising, social media advertising, basic SEO (because for serious SEO you will need to invest)

Paid methods would be everything that people mentioned above plus investing heavily into SEO - building your own private network of sites

Tell that to the hundreds of thousands of folk who's businesses went bust almost overnight from the Google updates. Happened before, will happen again, and again, and again. Bad advice telling someone to invest heavily in a strategy that shares control with a third party. Jeez, when will people learn? When will they take their head out of their asses?

No it's not. SEO traffic is "average" at best. Want to get to the top of Google? Buy your way there and save yourself months of hard work. Social media? Please. Do your research and you'll clearly find it's one of the worst places to get traffic from. At least do Flakebook ads. It's still lower quality, but certainly better than any free social media strategies.

Why on earth would anyone invest heavily n SEO? Surely if you're investing heavily n anything, it should eliminate any strategy where you don't have complete, full control.

To OP. Focus on strategies that get people from "A" to "opt-in form" in the shortest number of moves. SEO doesn't do that. Stay away from that nonsense and focus on sending direct traffic to an opt-in form to generate leads.

Create SEO campaign that you have a full control of. Instead of buying different services that create links on their private network, create your own private network.

Everybody has their own ways to promote their products, my way is spending half the time on SEO and the other half on other methods.

Anyways I was just listing some options

Don't really matter who has control over your SEO campaigns, when it comes down to it, if Google decides to throw another hissy fit, or bring out another designer animal to chew through their algorithms then all your hard work and long candle lit hours has been in vain.

Getting traffic will ALWAYS be something you need to do for the life of your business.

            Some points about getting traffic:

            1. Basically, you can divide your traffic activities into two categories: 1) short-term and 2) long-term. You need both.

Pay-per-click (PPC) traffic costs money and is GREAT for getting a jumpstart and seeing results NOW (like, in just 15 minutes). There are free traffic methods too, like articles, but they are much slower and are a more long-term traffic strategy.

            You need both.

            2. Focus on WHO your target audience is and go where they are.

That is, too many people in the IM space focus on other IMers and give traffic resources that are really only for IMers, which is of NO help if your target audience is NOT other IMers or biz-op seekers! (Note the suggestions here on the WF. Almost every single suggestion assumes you're targeting other IMers.)

That said, here's a list of 15 different traffic methods. It's not an exhaustive list, but it will keep you busy for a long time to come.

            1. Search Engines and Directories
            2. PPC advertising
            3. Your own e-zine
            4. Your articles on other e-zines and websites
            5. Ads on other websites
            6. Ads in other e-zines
            7. Online forums and discussion groups
            8. Recommendations by other e-zine publishers (cross promotion)
            9. Recommendations by other site owners
            10. Affiliate programs
            11. Your e-mail sig file
            12. Exposure in radio, print and TV
            13. Live speaking to groups
            14. Postcard mailings
            15. Social Media
            16. Joint ventures

The mistake many Warriors make is trying to do it ALL. They end up exhausted, with no results. The key is to focus on just a handful (say 5) and do them over and over again. So pick the methods that best fit YOUR business and audience. Remember to include 1-2 fast-traffic methods and make the other 3 more long-term strategies.

It's VERY IMPORTANT to understand the online marketing process first. Online success is pretty basic and follows the same basic process for everyone, no matter what niche they're in:

Traffic > Opt-in page (to build your list) > Autoresponder series (or e-zine) (to follow up with your list) > Sales page

A sample traffic list could look like this:

            1. Social Media
            2. PPC
            3. Direct mail
            4. JVs
            5. Video

So those traffic sources lead to your follow up systems like this:

            1. E-zine/newsletter
            2. E-mail
            3. Direct mail

Which then lead to the actual conversion (sales) points like these:

            1. Solo ads
            2. Teleseminars
            3. Webinars
            4. Direct mail

These are where actual presentations and offers are made. They are generally the point of sale, where someone makes a decision to buy. To be successful with traffic, you need to reverse engineer the process and know where you're going before you start. Whether you're leading to a webinar, teleseminar or whatever will influence what traffic methods you use.

With all of that said, here are some resources for learning how to get traffic:

            1. Kim Roach of MyTrafficMentor.com offers a good course for learning how to get traffic. Check out her information at Traffic LIVE!

            2. Ana Hoffman at Get BIG Website Traffic for Small Budgets | TrafficGenerationCafe.com also offers a cornucopia of traffic-getting help and information.

            3. Michelle Pescosolido of Social Media Mastery

            4. Ben Adkins of Evil Facebook Magician at Facebook Magician | Secrets To Getting Attention... Fast

Beware: Often, traffic generation info is geared to other IMers, so they'll give you resources geared to that. If your audience is other IMers, fine. If not, be wary and choose people who can help you get the traffic you need. Don't waste time, money and effort getting unqualified traffic.

Once you get started, you'll see recommendations for other resources. If it makes sense for your audience and business, then do it it. If not, don't, no matter how bright and shiny the newest, latest, greatest offer is.

            Hope that helps!

Well if you know what you are doing when running SEO campaigns no furry animals will hurt you.

Think about it, when you do SEO you try to recreate a natural process, so if you do a good job at it how would Google be able to determine which links you placed on your own and which link other people placed for you?

Ok, first of all, a lot of people just think of numbers when they think of traffic. The fact is that you're dealing with real people though, so even if you're not going door to door marketing your product and you have a sound online marketing plan, you will have to get personal and friendly with people and be open to answering their questions. Otherwise it's hard to gain their trust. You can do all that through social media, blogging or email marketing - the approach is more important than the method.

PPC traffic is the best for conversions. I find FB traffic hard to convert. Wasted a ton of cash on FB ads. Even sending traffic to fan pages does not yield any results.

Besides, PPC, solo ads traffic is good if you can get a good vendor and your offer is solid.

I think as a newbie like me, I would not want to dump too much money in the early stage other than the learning course. I would try to research from the internet and forums for the first few weeks. Slowly learn the rope from the gurus before committing to buy extra "paid" products . Keep learning and doing homework daily. One day you will get the traffic ..

My favorite method, by FAR is SEO - however it does kind of depend on the niche you're in, some niches are so competitive that you can pretty much forget about any of the free traffic methods and just have to stick with paid advertising.

But if you can then go for SEO. But keep it organic-like or you might end up suddenly losing your rankings 'thanks to' a new Google algo update!

    Cheers,

First of all, whatever traffic you get, either paid or free, send it to a squeeze page to build a list.

A list is a long term asset you can profit from for a long time.

Some paid methods are buying Tweets from people with many followers, Facebook ads, PPC, buying banner ads or text ads on popular blogs or forums in your niche, etc.

Some free methods are YouTube videos, articles on ArticlesBase, EzineArticles, etc. document sharing sites like Scribd, placing free classified ads on Backpage, OLX, USFreeAds and other online classified sites, marketing to your Facebook friends, Twitter followers, LinkedIn contacts, etc.

I like the idea of paid traffic. A few years ago people would immediately tell you to post articles on Ezinearticles. Now that concept is dead. You should do paid advertising to see results fast, and to test different things to see what things will bring you the best conversions.

One crucial key to the success is driving website traffic. Rather than to follow the costly trend of hiring SEOs or internet marketers there are some other effective ways to do this job. These strategies include being on social medias, writing regularly to the target audience, making video demos and how to guides, creating loyal readers, posting comments and answering questions on Yahoo! Answers.

If you are looking for traffic from search engines like Google, you will need a lot of patience. It is a continuous process and will take a lot of time. Exceptions can take place in some rare case.

If you are looking for targeted paid traffic, you should go for Facebook PPC, adwords or solo ads. They are also very effective.
