Ok, this is a question about setting up niche based sites using a free blogging service such as wordpress or blogger. After getting your own domain name, why is it important to get hosting when the hosting is free?

Well blogger and wordpress have their own self hosting blog platform but if you want to get serious about business you would go with your own hosting ( you control content more ) and you can do more with your blog

You have a great point alexa_s. Thanks for pointing that out. I guess I need a hosting account then. Can you have multiple domain names under one hosting account?

Hosting costs very little. Why take a chance on things like this?
Don't fool yourself. The same thing can happen on shared hosting or virtual hosting should the hosting company decide that you're using too much bandwidth, spamming or whatever. They could also have serious uptime problems where it is extremely rare for Blogger to go down.

It's because of control and ownership. At any time you can be shutdown without warning. Even Geocities, the strongest, most popular free hosting of all time, had shutdown.
