Hi warriors,

I am about to use the Butterfly Marketing script on one of my upcoming businesses so I just want to hear some feedback on what do you think about the script from some of you here.

Also, is it possible to attach a forum onto the membership site?

Thanks.

  • I wish I knew more about the Butterfly Marketing script but I'm in the same boat as you -- sorry!
  • I am about to use it, it looks pretty good. So far it has been pretty easy to set up...

    • Hi Desmond,
first compliments for your report ( launch product.. ) the new version is very good
I'm using the BFM script for the first time, and it has some good features.
The only problem for me is the translation from eng. to italian, that for some files, you must do by hand.
So I think you'll make a good job!
For the forum, Ii depends on the authentication schema of the forum... I dont think you can attach it easily
      Bye,
      Max

  • It's pretty cool I have to say. But it's definetely got a learning curve to it...

Had to get my tech man to smooth much of it over lol. There's some great people over at the "Caterpillar" forum. (The BFM Forum). Although they ain't cheap!

    • That's supposed to be a private, customers-only forum.. Mike might not be too happy about its "name" being given out elsewhere.. lol

As far as the "they ain't cheap" comment, that's true with a lot of people who are selling their services on that forum.. but depending on what you need, there are a few of us over there (customers and a couple of Mike's employees/freelancers/partners) who are usually willing to help you out or at least point you in the right direction for free.

Back to the OP's questions.. I'm using the Butterfly Marketing script for one site, and have a couple others that are "in the works" right now. There may be a few bugs you'll need to iron out, but other than that it's a great script. As far as integrating with a forum.. there is an old post on the customers-only forum about integrating with PHPBB but it's kind of old and you'd probably need to hire a programmer to get it all set up for you. If you decide to go with SMF for your forum, be advised that there is a major security exploit going around right now and you'll need to take steps to secure your forum or else every .php file on your hosting account could be compromised.

  • You can edit the script however you want, it comes with full source code and there are plenty of sites running customzied versions of the BFM script. Personally I wouldn't even think of trying to run it "out of the box" when there are so many cool things you can do to improve it with just a little bit of PHP code (not to mention a couple little bugs you might want to fix before you try taking a site live).
  • Just set up my first BM site...took about a week and a half and did everything I needed it too right out of the box.

I also set up a blog and forum with it, and just did some tweaking to those codes to get them to match - then added them into the link in the membership pages - worked great but unfortunately the dang site got hacked last night...

But yes, the sky is the limit with what you can do with this script & a bit of knowledge (or a programmer)LOL

    • I'm sorry for your site.

Anyway, how did you managed to attach the blog & forums to the script?

  • It's great once you get the hang of it.

Your first Butterfly site will be the hardest to build.

After that, each new site you build will get easier.

I just built one for a friend, took me about 10 man-hours in total.

Very basic site, but it's already made my friend over $400 in less
than a week with some test traffic

Many of my most popular sites are Butterfly sites and I plan on
building at least 10 more using that script over the next year or 2.

    Hope this helps
    Jason
  • Mel, out of curiousity, what forum script were you using? SMF (up to and including versions 1.1.8 and 2.0 RC 1) had a major security vulnerability that was being widely exploited recently, depending on your settings someone could exploit this bug and compromise every PHP file on your hosting account. It's supposedly fixed in the latest versions (1.1.9 and 2.0 RC 1-1) but I haven't looked at the code or tried installing either version so I can't say for sure.

    • Steven,

I had heard about that - so I used phpBB I looked at the log file and found the IP address that he came from and tried to figure out how he got in...I'm still not sure. He went through everything from images to the blog and forum, but only changed the main.html & homepage.html pages in the BM part. The blog & forum didn't seem to be compromised.

I blocked the whole range of IP's from that company (in Vietnam), and took off the blog and forum for now just in case. I had tech support from Kiosk go through it and all seems to be clear and secure again.

I noticed you signed up for it this morning...thanks, & let me know what you think (if you get a chance, of course - in the other forum or thru PM) - please keep in mind this was my first site and pretty much set up so I could learn the script; I could definitely use any critiques you may have!

      Thanks!
      Mel
  • Yes, I do and I also have DLguard, plus, RAP, (rapid action profits)

In the end I created my own script, for reasons that benefit me alone, however, if I had a choice, I would use RAP, I have looked through BFM
line by line and my dad told me once that if I did not have anything good to say then I should say nothing at all.

So taking that very good advice, I like RAP or DL Guard, really though it is all about what you need in a script,

I know that DLGuard is one of the best products that just keeps getting better, and that is hands down the best of the best, but for working with affiliates and Joint ventures, RAP is the better choice, Sid is also one that keeps working on getting a better product,

Again, note the lack of any opinion on BFM

    hope that was somewhat helpful

    • My sincerest objections to purchasing RAP is the inability to use Clickbank.. I don't know why but it should be part of the script.

  • I am using BFM but prefer Memberspeed. The backend configuration is quite difficult and confusing. I thought layout design is changed when they got the 2.0 version. Or perhaps it's the navigation/ layout?

But anyway, it's very useful in its traffic generating feature. I'll be testing DELAVO (new version of JVManager) though. I like the way payment processing goes.

    • I had some trouble getting DELAVO up and running, it was triggering some mod_security filters on my web host, but once HostGator support whitelisted it for me (took them about 30 seconds after I posted a ticket) I'm loving it.
