Where can I get a free phone number?

Where can I get a free phone number and or voice mail box with phone number?

I've tried so many things. The best I've found is 5 bucks a month, or it's free but it expires if no one calls it in 30 days.

Isn't there any free permanent solutions?

And I suppose getting a free address is near impossible right?

    Google voice.

As to the ones that expires if no one calls, call it yourself or have a friend do it.

I'm not sure where any settings are that allow you to pick a phone number? I didn't see anything like that. But I'm in Canada so that might be why?

When I signed up years ago it was part of the process so I can't help with that. Sorry.

If you are asking for international dialing, I suggest skype. It's very good when it comes to voice quality, connectivity and pricing.

Pretty sure OBI is going to stop working with Google voice soon. If IRC Google voice is stopping service on what allows OBI to work.

Agreed but hope Google voice will not stop so soon. As long as google voice is available OBI and GV are good to go.

Google Voice is the clear decision for a "Free" number.

Depending on your business model and purpose for the phone number though, you may want to consider Grasshopper.com

They are not free... but the level of professionalism their service can bring to your startup / company is unreal. They have virtual extensions, menu systems and you can set up specific extensions to forward to specific mobile numbers (for your customer support staff)

Anyway.. I just wanted to mention it, because I use it religiously and if other Warriors are looking for a top notch virtual phone system... Grasshopper is my choice.

Sorry if I went off the topic of "Free" :-)
