Im going to make a micro niche site using an amazon product just as a test site for my first affiliate site. When trying to sign up to amazon associates, it requires a website domain in order to proceed and sign up.

The problem is, I have not fully decided on what product to promote. Even if I have, is every single product on amazon.com able to be affiliated? Or is it only the products sold from amazon and not the new or used from the list of other sellers?

The product I was planning on selling is actually not sold by amazon but by some other sellers. Does this mean there most likely isnt an affiliate link for it? There seems to be know way to check before signing up.

Amazon have a list of excluded products do a google search on amazon excluced products, the last time I posted this info as a link my post was deleted by the mods.
Normally if you can put the product in your basket you will get paid for it for any Amazon product or other seller. You don't get paid for products that are 'product ads from external websites' these are the products that open up in a new browser window when you click on them.

I have no idea what you mean by "external website ads" from amazon. I have never seen this. I can add the product to my basket but it is not sold or fulfilled by amazon. It is only sold from the list of new and used sellers. So all independent businesses and stores selling through amazon.

The product details will say something like:

      ""
      Only 5 left in stock
Ships from and sold by HealthCraze. Gift-wrap available.

      ""

So there is no fulfilled or from amazon mentioned. I was under the impression that it would be up to the seller if they wanted to associate it or not in this scenario?

Yes a product such as that the one you mention you would get a commission on.

I would show you an example of what I mean by external website ads but as I mentioned if I add an Amazon link my post will be deleted

but for instance type this product into the amazon search box

oCOSMO 32-Inch 720p 60Hz LED HDTV with Built-in DVD Player (Glossy Black)

this product you would get a commission on as it has an add to cart button

if your scroll down the page you will see an example of

    Product Ads from External Websites

These products if you click on any of them will take you to an external website where you do not get paid by Amazon.

I would buy a slightly more broad domain and then add posts for the specific products you want to promote. That will do better in the search engines and also look more serious.

Plus you don't have to worry about whether your first product is a winner or not.

For example, if you want to promote a specific toy, buy a domain name on something like toys for boys (or something like that since I bet that one is taken).

Then make posts on all kinds of toys suitable for boys...

      Good luck!

what you showed is from amazon.com so of course its affiliatable.

my item does have an add to card button but it says:

      $151.89 + $11.99 shipping
In Stock. Sold by FingerFcknGood Company

      does this mean its affiliatable?

I was just under the impressiono that if it was being sold from an independent seller that its up to them whether they choose to affiliate it or not. I mean, if I put a product up tomorrow and some kid sells it without me knowing or asking. I instantly take a 6-10% loss?

You must do some research to see whether the products you are interested in are excluded from affiliate programs.

You don't have to be an associate to read through the the Terms of service. To find product exclusions type Associates Program Excluded Products into your browser and it will come up with the page that will tell you if a product is excluded.

This is the same question you asked when you joined a week or so ago.

The problem is I dont have a business nor do I have a website domain. I was planning on seeing the types of affiliates I can market before I created an appropriate website.
You can see the products without have an account. You can't get an account until you have a site. It isn't going to change.

You can read the affiliate terms of use on Amazon before you sign up - google them.

Asking "if some kid sells it"....and the language you use in posts - makes me wonder how old you are.

Paying a commission is not the same as "taking a loss".

The point was, if I put an item on amazon I should have an option too affiliate or not affiliate the product. If I only had a few items and I knew they'd sell on their own. I wouldnt want to take a 10% loss, if someone sold them for me, without my consent or awareness on the matter.

So I was assuming everything from sold through and by amazon exclusively was affiliatable. But independent sellers and stores had an option to choose if they wanted to allow affiliates to sell for them or not.

In regards to said exlusion list. The amazon exclusion list, makes sense for amazon exclusive products only. Amazon knows what they are buying and selling so they can make a list for themselves. But individual sellers can be adding new items constantly.

            im 12 btw

I just cant picture there being a message in the amazons sellers terms saying

"btw every item you list is affiliatable. anyone who is in our associates program can sell any of every item you list on amazon.com. if by some chance they do sell your item, they will receive a 6-10% commision directly taken from your profit. this is non negotiable, kthxbai"

this is like me walking into a store and saying, "im gonna tell people to shop here and buy your stuff. every single person that does you give me 6-10% on whatever they buy. no negotiating"

im gonna get a job as a new car salesman for hummer or lamborghini. When they tell me my salary and commission, Ill just say "no thanks bro, when you list something for sale. Because I have a sales liscence. I instantly have rights to sell it for you, whether you want me to or not, and if I do I get 6-10% on that 300,000$ lamborghini".

              • Just put any domain in the account setup it doesn't matter and any product/niche is fine

Once you have your account setup you can put your amazon affiliate ID on any site you own in any niche

It's not like PPV where when you register the domain, you have to stick to niche forever

If you are in the U.S. I'm guessing 99% of the productions on Amazon.com are available for promotion via Amazon affiliate. if you are really worried about it PM me and I will send you a list of excluded products or put the list on my site or something

  • Maybe on the initial sign up, but not after that. So if you have a site now, just use that. But when you change to another niche for your review site you don't have to do anything except maybe create a different tracking ID if you want.

I can't really remeber if I had to submit a domain/URL when I signed up in '09, but my first Amazon review site was a blog about triathlons...then I switched to sites about baby products, outdoor products, home and garden, women's accessories, travel, etc....and I never told Amazon about the latter and never had a problem.

I found on their excluded products list on amazon. What I saw was scary. Yeah, excluded products include, xbox, ipod, and garmin gps. Folks, there are a whole lot of products and many are from big name companies. Good idea to take a look at the list as you might be promoting some. That would be bad for you. Check up on the latest terms of service.
