Tip For The Writers Here Looking For Work

I have been looking for someone to upload some content for me and so I have been scanning the Warriors For Hire section.

Out of the dozen or more offers I looked at and read and I can honestly tell you that only about 2 stood out for me.

Here is why.

None of the other writers used an image of themselves or even at the very least an avatar.

It may not sound like much but for me it is and Im thinking that many others may have the same opinion.

If i'm going to hire a writer to write content on my website then that means there is a connection to me personally and it would be nice to see that person before I have them write for me.

Its not about being good looking or anything like that, but think about it like this, you would not hire someone to work for your company unless you interview them first would you?

There is just something about a real image of a person that you cant beat, call it a gut feel or something to do with body language but somehow there are no words for what the image of that person.

Just a small tip. Hope it helps.

I feel the same way. I may have hired someone without a picture before, but I do look for a face when I am hiring. If I can talk to them on Skype or phone, It's even better

I use a photo of myself (certainly not good looking) but I agree...it shows you are genuine.

This is an interesting but common take on hiring someone online.
Prospects want to know as much about you as possible. Come
to think about it, I just hired a programmer on oDesk and out
of the 30 or so bidders I hired the guy that look most like
me--seriously, he could pass as my brother!

    Goes to show ...

Exactly! There is nothing to stop a 19 year old lad uploading a picture of a 50 year old woman and vice-versa. I would prefer to rely on some verbal interaction rather than a photograph.

That was supposed to quote meepo's comment above.

I use my image on my site, but I've not been looking for extra work for a while...and the image isn't the best...(will update, just haven't found the time. Conversely, if I update, will I have the time for any extra work?)

But even if I differentiate with a pic, my name is so commonplace that you can never know which one is me. Perhaps I should become an editor and pretend I'm Scottish.

I use a profile picture of myself even though I am wearing shades and you can't see my entire face.

Maybe if The Warrior Forum allows GIF avatars I will make one of me taking the shades off and putting them back on - CSI style - just for you guys.

    Until then...

    Be jealous of my shades.

It's always a good idea to let people know what you look like, regardless of what you are doing online. You need to be more than just another advert.

The hardest job is becoming *your name* in their minds, rather than just being another writer. People buy from people, always have done and always will do.

If you had to choose between generic writer A, generic writer B and a dude/dudette that bridges that gap and makes you feel like you know them, you're always going to go with the person that seems real to you. That's just how people are wired.
