I admit, I don't make a full time living... yet!! Although it is a decent part-time business for me. It's taken me years though. I started 4-5 years ago.

It usually takes, as far as i have research 2/3/5/7 months depending on what you are doing and the competition intensity of the market. However implementing a simple model as the other threads above describe is about 2/3 months, always expect 5 but work as you were to do it in 2

I've never worked on a 9-to-5 job in my entire life. I've been blogging since 2009 and it took me around 3 to 4 months to make money with a blog. So I make a living 100% thru Internet Marketing!

I've started with IM in October 2010. I didn't know anything about it and even had to google "sales letter". In April 2013 I've quit my 8-to-5:30 Job and since then I'm a full time online marketer.

So it's never a question of how long, it's a question of what you do and when.

I've had students who are now doing over $1M per month and the jump happened essentially in less than a year.

My advice would be don't think about this stuff like a job "i.e. how much time do I have to put in before I get my paycheck" - that's the wrong perspective.

I'm not really looking at it like a job, more like a supplement for now. Just looking to see how different people who have had success attacked the business. What particular field are you associated with da3gan?

Love to hear your opinion more on the 'mindset' here. Job mindset vs business mindset.

      Thanks!

Note: I have a business partner and we started with a "real" outsourcing business that funded our IM business.

It took us about a year to get to the point where our IM business was making a good amount of profit per month on its own. We made a fair amount before that point, but most was being invested back into the business.

For an interesting look at the time it takes to get your business running, I'd check out the 1,000 Day Rule here. It's a spin off the 10,000 rule to be come a master that's often discussed, but probably more applicable to this industry.

I started dabbling with list building and affiliate marketing in 2001 but my main focus at the time was still my career on Wall St. I really got serious about Internet Marketing in 2003 and starting creating my own products. By the middle of 2003 I was making a full time income and towards the end of 2004 I was making 6-figures from my business.

If you're looking for different perspectives on making a living Online, I thought this was a good thread recently - http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...-money-im.html

Personally, I started part time in and around Y2k and formed my own company in '05 when I went full time. Been living the IM/IBiz life since and my old career in finance seems pretty nasty by comparison. This year in many ways was my best - not so much RE income but because I fulfilled an age old dream to work abroad for a while. It's much warmer (and cheaper) in Thailand than London

I was up and running my first month. I am in offline and and I have done sales for over 10 years. I literally started January 2nd 2012. The day after New Years and I went into my home office and started selling just like I would at any other job. I put in 8 hours + a day and was selling from day 1.

Although I have not yet made the leap to "100% IM Living," I like to look at it a bit differently, as many others have posted as well. I look at where I was yesterday, last month, last year, etc. and ask myself if I am happier today with my life, my income, and my work than before. My answer to all of those is a resounding yes! I love doing what I do online and I love the monetary benefits that follow...but it is the extra freedom, the possibility that one day I can break-off and be 100% self-reliant that drives me everyday. Sure, I work my regular job day-to-day but the income I make online has allowed me to enjoy my day job for what it is and look forward to the day that I can cut loose and own this IM thing.

Fascinating stuff from all of you. Thanks for the honest replies. My only other question for you is that for those of you that are in this full time, are you diversified on the Internet Marketing spectrum? Or do you focus on one particular aspect of IM'ing and master it? I find that there seems to be a trend that those that focus only on one area are more vulnerable to down times, whereas those that have multiple streams coming from multiple angles are able to ride out any bumps in the road along the way.
    Thanks again.

From my experience, one of the worst things new entrepreneurs can do is worry about diversification before they've really got something that's working.

I've met and talked with dozens of aspiring entrepreneurs that are earning $1.5-2K per month that are extremely worried about not being diversified enough.

I really think this SHOULD only be a "5-figures-per-month" problem. Find something you can crush, get yourself to that level and then start to look at diversifying your revenue streams.

Otherwise, you'll end up shotgunning the approach and wondering why nothing seems to stick or "work".

I think this is a minority opinion and may not work for you, but I've seen this so much I can't help mentioning.

Hey ryback, I focused on offline things like SEO and PPC when I started. Then I gradually moved into the mobile space. This year I have been focusing on list building and some other online ventures. It's good to master something when you start out and then start to diversify the way you get income. Multiple streams like you said is always the best, but get to know each method you try out.

I started online 6 years ago. It actually only took me 4 months of studying, and 1 month of implementing what I learned over those 4 months to go full time. The key that helped me was I was selling Big Ticket Items so I only needed to to make a few sales to make a full time income. Hope that helps.

I make 80% of my money from online marketing.

But since I do local lead gen I always have to devote about 20% of my time to phone meetings, in office meetings, answering questions from business owners anytime they have a question about a campaign.... basic customer service type stuff.

With Clickbank its 100% online. But the majority of my income comes from my local sites, and only about 1-1.5k / month from CB.

This last year was my best year, clearing well over 6 figures, but these last couple months I fell of a cliff, after hummingbitch murdered about 70% of my earnings. So now I'm back in "survival mode", trying to rebuild up everything... and its putting me under INTENSE pressure.

This is the part about marketing that I don't like. But I have to accept the fact that I was taking well known risks (spun content / spam / other stuff I won't mention) so its forcing me to rethink how I operate.

A huge part of me does not want to go full on whitehat... because I made a lot more money with blackhat than whitehat. I hate to say it but its just the reality of things. And I managed to skate through all updates prior to hummingbitch. So I don't really know what 2014 will bring. I don't want to give in to the game and go all whitehat, but something will have to change.

I think the best advice I can give is never become too comfortable. Always have a plan B, C, D, etc etc. A lot of people love to say "diversify" your marketing but a lot of people don't seem to understand how hard it really is. Because every time you "diversify" you have to learn an entirely different set of skills. Skills that takes months or years to learn. Whether its PPC, facebook marketing, article marketing (which is not an option for local lead gen) or direct mail... you really have to be an expert at EVERYTHING to properly "diversify". So I give huge credit to those people who are experts at everything. Who can rank sites and turn a profit, who can start up a PPC campaign and turn a profit, who can build a fan page and turn a profit, who can do direct mail and turn a profit.

You might not need to be a rocket scientist to be good at SEO. Or do be good at PPC. But to be good at everything, and have that ability to truly diversify ... you really need to be one smart, crafty, intelligent person.

As you can see from the answers, everyone is different. I started blogging as a hobby and quit my job after 3 years.

But if YOU have a "full time" mindset, it may not be wise to compare yourself with others.

Do what you can, learn as much as you can at your own pace, and everything will come together

Ive been online since 2005, been doing IM exclusively since 2006, but it wasn't until this year after I made a decision last November (2012) that I can proudly say I do this 100% on my own.

Your path will be completely different than everyone who has already replied with theirs.

It may take you 6 weeks, 6 months, or even 6 years.

However, whatever you do, make sure you are clear on what you want and what you intend to give in exchange for what you want - and never ever give up.
