How Many Posts Should a Blogger Post?

I'm new in blogging and talked to many bloggers who said that daily posting is key to success but I think ideally you should write everyday, and then only publish what you deem to be high quality work.Perhaps your top 3-4 posts each week. This keeps your writing skills sharp as well as taking away the pressure of writer’s block. Please speak your mind about it

You should post everyday and making sure that it is good content because if you the author dont think its very good then the chances of someone else thinking its great is not very likely

Focus on great content that engages your followers. RE how regularly, 3 new posts in a week ought to be OK. If you don't have much time, consider curating.

From a audience point of view, they will read what you write if they are interested in the subject matter - whether you post once a day or 10 times a day is irrelevant in my opinion.

Think of a news site - people scan them daily and click on the articles that have headlines that interest them so as long as your blog is easy to scan then people will happily do the same. Multi-author blogs do this successfully.

If you are talking SEO, again I don't think post frequency matters all that much but I suppose more regular posting can help keep things "fresh" and keep the spiders coming back PLUS even if a post is not super engaging for readers, it might provide ample internal linking opportunities so I wouldn't necessarily get rid of posts you don't think are worthy (a balance comes into play though as you don't want too high a ratio of lesser quality posts).

That makes a lot of sense, Steve. I am guilty of not posting often enough. My new year's resolution is to either outsource or get at least one post weekly done.

Do you know if editing/updating earlier posts has any effect on search engine traffic? I have set my blog up to show the Last Updated date.

Updating old posts can possibly impact your search engine traffic in two ways:

      1. updating the content may allow you to hit more long tail keywords. Optimizing the page title and meta description can also improve both rankings and your CTR from the search results.

      2. if you are going through and putting internal links into old posts then these can, and often do, give a slight boost to the linked pages.

I think writing a piece of content per day is good practice, but it doesn't mean you have to publish it all. In fact, as a new blogger, much of the content you should be writing should be in the form of guest posts, blog comments, etc.

Quantity is not what is important. Consistency is the key when it comes to blogging.

You are better to do one consistent post each week than try to do 3-4 each week and never get around to doing them.

Analyze your niche leading blogs and try to imitate their posting pace. But ideally, you need to work out your own consistent posting pace and stick with it.

However, if there is some breaking news related to your product/service/niche, etc. you might want to increase the number of posts or write an in-depth post on the issue.

Can you explain a bit about curating? I am not sure about it.

Regular posting is essential - you have to be consistent and keep it up though.
How much time can you devote to posting to your blog each week?
How long does it take you to write a post?
How many would you realistically be able to write each week?

Well said Kay - it is one thing to have an ideal number in your head, it's another to actually hit that number week in and week out.

I also vote for everyday posts. They actually help you improve your writing skills. Of course there are situations when people are not so active, like around holidays for example. If you think you have low chances of being read, maybe you can program your posts for later on. However, if you have the right keywords and you write interesting enough, people will come back for more.

Blind leading the blind. The name of the game is QUALITY over QUANTITY. Writing a shitty post each day is not going to help at all when compared to 2 SOLID posts per month. Plus you need networks to distribute your content.

Look I agree that quality is best but short posts can just as easily be considered quality as long posts.

And if you've ever stopped to think about how you interact with blogs, I know that for me at least, I return to those blogs that update regularly way more than those that only have a couple of posts a month.

So I don't agree with your 'blind leading the blind' statement...

In case of SEO the Daily posts will definetly give you the biggest boost, but if it results in low quality stop it. A great way to achieve a higher post frequency is to allow guest posts on your own blog or pay somebody to be a co-writer or depending on your niche just buy content if you can afford it.

I post everyday. Gets me pretty good results. I think if you can, you should make one blog post per day... shoot for 500+ words per post.

And dont forget about pinging, submitting to blog directories and RSS directories, and some general marketing within your niche.

Well, if you can post SOLID content everyday, then you're a beast...but I've never seen or met someone who posted SOLID content everyday. I've seen plenty of shitty websites with content posted everyday...but they're shit.

The A-List bloggers all post infrequently, and yet they have the biggest lists and the most money pouring in. So I gotta disagree with your argument. These are people like John Chow. However, I will convene that Steve Pavlina produces a lot of great content like every other day or something like that.

Moral of the story is QUALITY, which you agree with. I didn't comment on length of posts or even types of content. Stay chill.
