Domain suggestions for a travel niche blog ..

Hi

I want to start a new travel blog. I was searching for some good domain names for the same. I tried various combination through 'Keyword Planner' but most .com's have already been taken. The below long tail kw looked ok -

'anniversary vacation ideas' - it has an available emd.

Should I go for it ? or is too long and less searches ?
Suggestions appreciated.

Focus on a brand and not on KW domains. EMD's don't rank for shit anymore in the SERPS. Create a brand within the domain, use KW research for content creation...not domain registration.

I charge for that kind of elaboration. All I'll say is that WANDERLUST is more powerful than anniversaryvacationideas any day of the week. Get creative and you'll come up with something awesome.

Hi, here's a few suggestions for your blog I came up with:

    www.TravellingStartsHere.com
    www.StartTravellingHere.com
    www.GuideYourTravels.com

These are some general suggestions as I don't really know what specific needs are your blog catering to.

If you need more specific domain names, I had be happy you think of a few more suggestions. Just PM me and I would help you think of something for free. (There's really no catch attached as I am often met with these kind of problems as well when I first started internet marketing so I had offer my help to people who are also facing this problem currently.)

          Hi,

Actually i agree with TheRealDudeman, instead of going for EMD you should focus on building a brand (if that's what you are creating your website for)

If you want recognition and loyal subscribers or visitors, then visit other blogs or websites and check out what they do, look at their domain names and see if they have long tail keywords, i am pretty sure they don't and they just use a catchy domain.

If you still wanna go for a "keyword domain" i suggest you go and take a look on expiring domains, just make a Google search for this and you'll find plenty of sites selling them.

The idea here is to be creative with your site, this is what marketing on the net is all about

          Cheers!!

Before you worry about a domain, I think you need to do some market research and figure out what niche you're going to be working in.

Travel, per se, is huge and way too broad to be considered a viable niche, in my opinion. You aren't going to successfully compete for that keyword.

Travel blogs are a dime a dozen.

First figure out who you've going to serve and what type of a product or service you're going to monetize. Again, you do that through market research. Once you have that nailed down, then you can think about a domain name that fits the niche.

    Good luck to you,

    Steve

dont worry about emd, with googles filter on these you have to be careful with over optimisation. Try and get some brandable like 'stretched-sneakers.com" traveltrailguide.com

Yes just like everyone is saying focus more on your brand. Your brand is how people look and know you. It's what you stand for. It's why you do what you do. It's the present and future of your business. This is definitely more long term compared to long tail keys.

    EMD's are easier to remember.
Also, good content and good quality on EMD's gets better ranking.
If anyone who says the opposite, ask them this question:
Don't they wish they had a time machine?

    Nuff said

You can use the word "compass" as it has something to do w/ travel and it isn't that saturated.

    yourcompass.com
    travelcompass.com
    etc.

Don't worry about an EMD it has no real benefit anyway.

Pick a good brandable domain that is memorable and not some generic keyword laden URL.

Running the numbers on your suggestion. I was a bit surprised 'anniversary vacation ideas' and "Las Vegas vacation Ideas" have about the same search results. As a personal rule... if the market you are after is equal to or greater than the equivelant "Las Vegas" term, thats not a good thing. You would be better off going after "21st Birthday vacation ideas" by far! way more a "Niche" than your selection.

I do how ever agree that you need to think more about a brandable name over the EMD. In general, travel specifically, Once you get into one niche, you tend to run into the next and the next. A unified branded website allows for that. A keyword specific URL does not.

      Hope that Helps!

Take some time to find a niche related expired domain with age and some backlinks. That will get your site off to a good start.

As the others say the benefit of the exact match domain's has gone now.

So you might as well take advantage of getting an expired domain with some authority.
