Here's How to Get Your FULL REFUND from Hostgator, for the Recent Downtime

Hello warriors,

In case you don't know, you can get back your money for this month's
hosting from Hostgator for the recent downtime. I did the last time they
had this type of downtime. I sent them the below message and they
replied with an immediate refund, no questions asked.

It's simple, just edit/customize the below message I sent them:

-----------------------------------
Hello,

All my hostgator sites, including the ----.com VPS were down for more than (estimate the number of hours) hours on this day and were even going on and off all through the day.

I hereby request a refund for all my hostgator sites for the month in question, in line with your guarantee:

-----
We guarantee that your site will be up 99.9% of the time we host it. This guarantee includes both network and server failures. If your site isn't up 99.9% in any one month we will issue a service credit to your account for the month.
-----

0.1% of a month equates to about 43 minutes. All my hostgator sites were down for many hours, so I qualify for this refund, not to mention all the loss of business and money I encountered because of this.

To prevent moving all my hostgator sites to another host, please honor this right away and issue a service credit to my account for the month for all my hostgator hosting accounts.

Thank you!

Within a few hours, they responded with:

---------------------------------------
Hello,

We do apologize for the inconvience this has brought to you. At this time we have added a credit of $123.85 to your account for the uptime guarantee for the two shared accounts and the VPS.

This will be applied to the next due invoices. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.

Thank you!
Best regards,
---------------------------------------

Since EIG is trying to save money by buying hosting companies and
then going right ahead to reduce the quality by cutting support staffs,
moving servers to obviously cheaper solutions, etc, they should also
be ready to continue to make refunds like these, to those affected, but
only if webmasters know about this and claim their due refunds.

Of course many of us would have lost a lot more money because of
the downtimes than the amount we will get from the refund, but hey,
it's better than nothing, right?

Hope this helps,

Kingsley

I wonder if they will be doing that for all requests or if you just happened to get lucky. Because you can view their VPS TOS here: VPS Terms Of Service - HostGator

The 99.9% up time guarantee only applies to shared/reseller solutions. Dedicated and VPS servers are covered by a network guarantee in which the credit is prorated for the amount of time the server is down, which is not related to our uptime guarantee.

They gave me a credit on my reseller hosting, but I've already switched away.

Same with lots of people. I switched my most important sites long
ago but still have some sites with them. They have gone downhill
since they got acquired but when one has hundreds of sites needing
different hostings, they can still be useful.

    issue a service credit
that's not a "refund" - it doesn't "cost" the company to add a credit to your account. This basically means nothing to them........

Sad to see HG go down the tubes since the AIG acquisition.
With so many threads on WF complaining about HG i would think the smart move would
be to find a new host instead of worrying about claiming pennies?

You're upset with downtime ... so you stay with them?

Alrighty then. Good luck with that.

The smarter thing to do would be to leave and find a better host. That's what thousands of people have been doing for months now. I've been an EIG victim 3 times since 2003, and they've been doing the same thing for 10 years. It's not going to magically go away. There is no "Hostgator" anymore -- it's EIG wearing a mask to fool you.

As was said above, adding a credit doesn't affect them any. All that does is get you to stay with them. It's not a "refund" unless you get your cash back, so the thread title is wrong.

There is no way to get a refund from Hostgator, atleast not for lost revenue.

Didn't notice any downtime on my sites.

All sites have some downtime, just make sure you have 2-3 hosting plans and spread your risk around.
