Best shopping cart for ebooks and videos?

If want to sell ebooks and videos on my site, what is the best shopping cart or other setup? It isn't a store, it's a blog. So I need to be able to put "add to cart" buttons anywhere.

Paypal is said to somehow allow people to access/download files without purchasing.

Ejunkie is super cheap for other stuff, but it starts at $18 as soon as storage exceeds 500mb, which is just 1 or 2 video files.

Is there anything cheaper? better?
Is there a way to implement amazon s3 to decrease storage use?
Does any cart offer a sidebar cart widget?

Thanks.

Jvzoo has adaptive payments, so you pay a small fee per sale and they'll handle product delivery. You may want to go that route to get started. That option of course also lets you set up an affiliate program which is nice

I'll look into that. It looks like the other favorites are Payloadz and easy digital downloads. Both seem to have their own strengths. But EDD has had some technical complaints.

I’d explain it to you, but your brain would explode.

With places like JVzoo, you can of course hook up affiliates as well, if you wan to go that route.

I've been using Woocommerce and really like it, but you can't "place" buy buttons (not that I know of), so maybe that won't work for you.

e-Junkie is a good alternative. They allow you to store your files off-site so you could combine e-Junkie with Amazon S3 for storing your video files. You can get a 67 day free trial with e-Junkie - that would give you time to set up S3 and give it a whirl.

If your blog is on the WordPress platform, I suggest you look into ECWID. I haven't used them but I have heard good things about how easy it is to set up.

      Good luck to you,

Not really interested in affiliates. I have a different model.

After looking at the Payloadz and EDD, ejunkie does seem to be ideal for my use. Ejunkie also integrates with some DVD/CD fulfillment companies so visitors can order hard copies too. That's a plus.

Thanks for the reminder about the trial. Good point. With all the other details I've been checking out, I forgot about part.

EDD seems cool, and I especially like that it's not recurring fees (just add-ons for sale). It doesn't integrate with the CD/DVD fulfillemt, but that might not eliminate it either.

I remember seeing ECWID, but don't remember the details. I'll check it out again.

ECWID looks cool. $12.50, unlimited storage. Don't know what it can't do, since there isn't a lot of documentation. But one thing it won't do... Can't put "add to cart" buttons in posts. Would have to link to the product description page instead. Not sure if I want to give visitors the extra step. Thinking...

I've had great success with WooCommerce and it's free. You would need to buy an Extension or 2, to connect to your merchant account (or use the free Paypal one) but it works great and could be used as described with "Buy Now" buttons etc.

Thanks. I know a lot of folks like it, but woo doesnt work smoothly with genesis (which is what i have). Something there doesnt match up and it creates some weird stuff.

Does it use links that expire? How does it secure the eproducts?

I have not used Genesis enough to know why it doesn't work smoothly, but I do have a plug-in for woo that is called genesis connect. I have not used it, but guessing that might fix some issue? Sure I picked it up free, probably on woo's plug-ins section. Just a thought.

Are you asking about links and secure products for woocommerce? You can set download number and days to expire for each product, options when your adding a product.

I don't know how secure products are, but the plug-in does create a separate folder just for product files. I think you can also set url's.

Genesis connect is available in wordpress plugin gallery.

It fixes some stuff but not everything. I bought a wso recently that required woo. So I tried it on another site. One thing I remember is that the price slider didnt work or display properly. A few other things too.

It does look like woo is best tho. No monthly fees, amazon s3 integration, aweber, social sharing and incentivizing, related products, etc.

What do you mean "set urls"?

Thanks for the info on genesis and woo. I'll keep that in mind.

When I said you can set urls, meaning when you add a product, you can choose file paths or a url, so guessing you could set up your own product protection if you wanted. You can also upload products.

Don't know if woo is the best, but it works great for me on wordpress. All the options you need and set up nicely for digital products as well.

I also like woo because you have full editors for product description and short description, that was an issue when I tired using WP commerce, unless they changed it.

That's quite a lot of anchor text you've got there.

For now I like woocommerce and EDD best. No monthly fees, just freemium upgrades--not a problem. Ejunkie looks like a good standby option, but it doesn't have any cart widget or extra cool stuff like the social incentive (discount at checkout for sharing cart) and checkbox next to terms.

I wrote woo about the issues I experienced to see if they're common with genesis, and if they're anything that support would help with.

Also asked exactly how the link expires (based on cookie, ip address or what). Ejunkie creates a custom link and deletes it upon expiry.

Ejunkie has a few cool features tho. Integrates with a few cd/dvd fullfillment companies for customers who want hard copies. Also performs pdf stamping, but I can probably find this in a plugin/program or something. Also ejunkie can only send one file per purchase, two have to be zipped, and then the pdf stamping doesnt work anyway.

To be fair that site is the grounds of testing as I dont do any external seo but just do on page and so the snippet title changes regulary :-)

    Woo commerce is epic :-)

Yeah, woo looks really good. But I'll have to see about their support. Received nothing back yet, tho ejunkie and edd both replied already.
