Health/weight loss would be most beneficial as the side benefits are numerous in other areas such as self-help and dating/relationships.

I think it is difficult to answer your question. It depends on what category of people you address to. People are so different.
I think one topic of general interest is how to make money fast and easy :-)
    Then health topics.

Here's my two cents on a couple...

    1. Financial Literacy. In an austere age where people are seeing increasing cost of living and stagnating wages, people need to know how to make their savings work harder.

    2. Empowerment of income. Any genuine niche that shows people how to create and run their own long term viable business, and create diverse income streams.

  • You can choose a niche by browsing places online that pool people together to communicate common interests. I have used websites like StumbleUpon to find niches. What is great about these types of websites is you have the ability to see just how popular a specific niche is based on the activity that occurs around the topic/niche on the website itself.

    Criteria has to be:
    1. Helps the most people
    2. Has the biggest impact on changing lives
I have to ask this question, does profit play at all into the answer or is it just the first two criteria?

Religion is a huge niche (if forum size is anything to go by).

You can easily monetise this niche, after all Scientology and Jehovah's Witnesses publish a heck of a lot of stuff.

Guides on how to get started in a particular career would be good as well. There are huge skill shortages in most countries. Radiology being one thing I can think of.

Agree, it's becoming the main problem in daily life, but not only children but people of almost every age faces this problem, people are more concerned about there health and diet so this is and will be very profitable niche to work.

To be a good niche that can help a lot of people, there not only has to be a problem but people who recognize they have this particular problem and are willing to look online and buy something that will help them.

Research for a solution online is a private way of finding something out, OK, maybe not private as far as Google is concerned but for most people, they are confident their friends or family are not going to be snooping around.

So products that address issues in a way that calls attention to the pain someone is feeling will probably work better than pointing finger at products. What I mean is, someone who is obese, is more likely to buy something that addresses a pain they are feeling. Social rejection, not being able to fit in places, anger at compulsive eating. And not so likely to buy something that points out what a terrible epidemic obesity is.

If I was going to pick a market that could help a lot of people to have an impact on their lives it would be self-development. Things like learning how to survive bullying, stop being shy, learn to be in control of your emotions, how to find true love, become self confident, learning to be creative. How to live a peaceful life avoiding stress. Things like that.

Health. I have lots of health ailments myself so I have a vested interest in this niche. But it's an evergreen niche that is guaranteed NEVER to go out of style or the need for new information. There are so many sub-niches that you can't go wrong. It can't get saturated either. For example, I have written over 1000 articles just on diabetes.

I think it depends on what someone's need is - there are so many needs out there, and any niche, if there are people in it who need help, can be a good niche.

I don't think there is any one perfect niche - there are hundreds - maybe start with what really interests you and you see hurting people with pain you can alleviate

I would put the health/weight loss niche as #1. Without health, you can't do anything. More importantly, as a marketer those looking for solutions in this niche are desperate for help and are willing to buy to help overcome their problems.

    Others have mentioned:
    # Healthy living and lifestyle
    # Weight loss
    # Fighting obesity in adults and children
    # The food niche
    # Self development
    # Income empowerment

The only niche I know of that can potentially do all of those
and change lives in the most profound way is permaculture
    or self sufficiency/homesteading etc.

In that niche you have development of self and skills,
healthy living and lifestyle, a heavy emphasis on producing
your own food, the natural side benefit of losing weight
by getting some healthy exercise providing for your own
needs and the liberation of not needing so much income (or any income)
to survive with the creation of extra income streams if
you need them (through selling surplus, training etc).

    Kindest regards,
    Andrew Cavanagh

When you say 'changing lives', you might want to give more precision, for example the internet marketing niche can change someone's life financially, while the self-improvement niche can change someone's life personally.

Anyways, I consider those 3 niches are at the top:

    - Internet Marketing
    - Health (including weight loss)
    - Self improvement

Yes, but competition also means that there is money to be made. With a very large niche, there are a lot more pieces of the pie to go around.

I don't think this is really a niche, but the skills to do good research may be the most beneficial to many. With good reearch skills, you can go from being pretty much ignorant about a subject to being an expert for many topics in a fairly short amount of time.

Here is how I pick a niche. I use the seven deadly sins; Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Lust, Anger, Greed, Sloth. What product(s) can I fulfill / solve all 7? This simple method is GREAT for writing sales copy as well.

Like weight loss for instance... Gain back your self PRIDE, be the ENVY all of of your friends, Resist Gluttony, Have the body your man will LUST over, Stop being ANGER about your appearance, use this and love the body you are in, Do you think you appearance holds you back financially? ( GREED ) A simple pill each day and the weight will disappear! ( SLOTH )

Once you start playing around with this you will find some products are a stretch to get a to fit the "7"

      Hope that Helps!

      "Whatever Oprah says it is."

Actually, there's a grain of truth in that smartass remark...

If the criteria are helping the most people and changing the most lives, then the answer has to be something that catches the imagination of the influencers of a society. And in many developed societies, that means celebrities.

      > AIDS was a relatively unknown disease until Rock Hudson died of it and suddenly that red ribbon was a required fashion accessory.

      > For years, people spent at least a portion of their Labor Day weekend watching the MD telethon, and kids actually ran carnivals to help "Jerry's Kids".

      > Right now, a lot of celebs are getting involved with various causes, from anti-bullying to fighting hunger to helping wounded veterans find jobs. Their chosen organizations have much higher profiles than anything one might get from putting an infoproduct on Clickbank or Kindle by itself.

Right now, if you want to fulfill the two criteria, I'd say it would be anything you could get Oprah to endorse or perhaps a health product with Dr. Oz's seal of approval. I'm sure other countries have similar people with similar clout...

Teach people to make enough money to live well and you improve all aspects of their lives from living conditions to health care and education for themselves and their family. While it may be true that you can't 'buy' happiness...sufficient income to afford a better quality of life goes a long ways to reduce the stress and issues that go along with a LACK of money in today's world.
