Hello, I am new to this forum and I need your help. I was wondering how to add traffic to my website: Spending it All - The Online Catalog of Cool Stuff
I have tried facebook ads and google adsense, with very little results.

Thank you for your help

Google Adsense doesn't actually drive traffic to your site. It's only a way to monetize the traffic that already is going there.

Try writing some articles about the cool stuff you have on your website. Do a few guest Posts on other blogs. Maybe write a few Guests posts about Cool Gift Ideas. I get a lot of traffic to one of my websites just by Guest Blogging.

Honestly I feel part of the problem is that this site is pretty much identical to thisiswhyimbroke.com, which is already EXTREMELY established...down to the layout...format...categories (which looks like you just copied and re-ordered on the top bar)...well basically everything. The only real noticeable difference is that he uses a slider at the top and you use a slide show.

If I open them both up, the only true difference is the coloring and syntax here or there. It's just not unique. You even use the same "check it out" button, product listing format, and the list goes on forever.

I know people advise others to go with what's working, but they hardly mean copy and paste someone's site.

yeah, I did base the design on that site. however, I am trying to not overlap and differentiate from them using different products. But it seems that the traffic and coversion are really low

Well, to be quite frank, a lot of people who happen to go to your site are probably having the same reaction as me. The niche is basically random interesting items. If you're identical, why would people go to your site vs thisiswhyimbroke when it is up hundreds of thousands of supporters compared to you?

You're not offering people anything unique, so why would they come back to your site in the future?

Think about a situation like...laptops for example.

If HP comes out with a laptop, and some new company you have never heard of has the same product down to EVERY detail, who are you going to trust and buy from?

Videos and articles can really help. Especially with whimsical type items. Good luck!

I know it's tempting to copy when you see their immense success, but you have to build your own empire. It's okay to use other people as inspiration, but in the end you need to create your own content.

It's not going to be easy, but the easy way out leads to situations like this.

Regardless of the similarity to thisiswhyimbroke, I think you have created a fantastic looking site. Looks like website design is one of your strengths. I would be interested to know what your site would sell for on flippa.com. If you like building sites, perhaps that could become a lucrative business for you?

My best success with traffic has been writing a bulk of ezine articles targeting several related keywords in my niche. Then redirecting that traffic with the signature link. It takes a lot of effort and time though.

I totally agree in that it looks quite amazing. Problem is that it's not just similar...it's literally a copy and paste turned green.

You obviously know a good bit of code or you wouldn't be able to recreate it so accurately. Don't short change your own abilities and create something for yourself. Once you have something unique, I think you'll see more recurring visitors!

With eCommerce sites like these you have to make sure that your
best sellers are set in prominent (above the fold) positions. You
are not amazon so you have to include everything that would show
that you are a credible seller. IF there are many sites like this then
you have to add some element which set you apart. What about
a video demo of the product? Just an idea.
