Low sales days - why and how?

Hello,

Have you sometimes noticed very "low" days when you make only 1-2 sales instead of the usual?

I'm currently having one and I'm looking for answers. For example, my traffic is same, traffic source is same, clicks are same etc, but sales are freaking low...

In the past 30 days I've had:
1 day when I made 3 sale
2 days when I made 4 sales
11 days: when I made 8 sales
9 days when I made 9 sales
4 days when I made 10 sales
2 days when I made 11 sales
1 day when I made 13 sales

How is this right? I've always thought that when the traffic & click are the same then the sales are same as well. Which is actually true, if you look at my last 30days income.

P.S: Page loads fast etc, no problems with payment processor whatsoever.

Just want to ask you. Is this normal? Have you seen similar "low days"? Should I panic?

  • If you send 100 clicks to a web page, and that web page sells something, there is one thing that you can not fully control; that is, the ability for the consumer browsing your page to buy what you have offered on your web page. It is the mental state of the consumer browsing your website that will cause these alterations in the amount of sales you receive.

One set of 100 clicks from consumers are not equal to the next 100 clicks from consumers because every click (in a perfect world) comes from a different consumer; consumers are not identical to one another, they are not carbon copies, so there is no way for you to get the same amount of sales from a specified amount of clicks.

Look into optimizing your conversion rate by improving your marketing and sales approach when selling your product(s). But be careful not to make huge alterations to your already running sales funnel. Split testing is a good way around this.

You don't say how much traffic your site gets, but it's unlikely that one day's data would be enough to yield a worthwhile average figure. That's why your monthly sales averages are probably more consistent - there's simply more data to work with.

Unless you were getting thousands of daily hits, it would be freaky if every day gave you the same number of sales. As it is, a daily span of 3-13 isn't particularly unusual.

But you run a science blog - you should know this.

When dealing with low amounts of volume this is what normally happens. Some days are just better then others while others are annoyingly low. Not sure what type of product you're promoting but if its CPS and your best day is 13 sales I'm not shocked this is happening.

Work on increasing your traffic to the point where even a "bad" day could be around 20 sales and it doesn't make you panic.

This happens with my site, sometimes ill get say 20 orders than get 5 than 13 and so on it just differs per day.

Seriously, you want to panic because of one day with lower than average sales? Maybe a week with low sales but one day...

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Something weird I noticed from my software products site was that I made most of my sales in the first and last weeks of a month. Strange.

It seems to be carrying over to my affiliate earnings now.

Plot your sales by day of the month and maybe you'll be surprised. And if you advertise, you can shut down your marketing for half of the month, but not lose half of your income.
