It's a pretty cool idea, I see people do it all the time. Here is one of the first blogs that come to mind that I've seen this done on: LukePeerFly Affiliate Marketing Blog - Luke Kling

I think the peerfly picture looks a little weird... I don't like it. Yoast the SEO guy uses cartoons in his site which I like, I use cartoon man in my wholesale blog also (It looks better than the real thing) :-)

I definitely think using a real photo lends more credibility but in this age of web 2.0, using some type of caricature can be acceptable.

Might be a stupid question what is the difference between caricature or cartoon picture? I notice some sellers say it different. Thanks

I think a caricature is an almost real representation of the person except that certain features are exagerated. so the nose may be made bigger, think of Mick Jagger and the way his lips are always made much bigger

        A cartoon doesn't do this :-)

Caricatures are more life like and usually a close representation of an actual person. I once got a caricature done of myself from this website and was very happy with it: Caricatures from photos : Create personalized caricature online

Cartoons are less life like -- think the Simpsons.

What? Ive seen people who I would bet have been used to model for Mr Burns and Moe ... In a LinkedIn group I am positive the real life Ned Flanders is a member :-)

OP. I have had cartoon images of myself done before and used a great freelancer, who didn't cost the earth. PM for the contact if you need it

Don't assume though just because people don't like the look of someone that they won't do business with them. It can work just as well the other way around in that you appear more genuine and real. Doctor Phil is a good example of that.

All you need do is look around at what all the big marketers online are doing. None of them are using cartoons of themselves. They may not be the prettiest people going around but they understand that authority, trust, and credibility only come from being as transparent as possible, and using a cartoon image of yourself does nothing to help with that transparency. It makes people think you have something to hide.

Still not sure. First impressions make a difference to lots of people. And while many use pictures of themselves, I bet there are a lot who use images of other people, Almost like a trick dating profile :-)

Im not sure about this Will. Maybe it's me but I use the 'Would you buy a used car off this person' approach. I have seen some pictures of people that I would not leave alone with a chicken let alone give them my money no matter how good the product is :-)

And oh dear.... some of those 'posed' portrait shots that people had done in the 80's ... why why why ?

We are not all photogenic lol
