How long did it take you guys to actually get profitable?

Personally it took me a few months to make my first $100.. then roughly a year to make my first $1000, then another two years to starting making $xx,xxx.

If I had known where I would now -- back in the first few days... I wouldn't have stressed out nearly as much.

In the beginning I kept thinking I was a failure... that I was never going to actually make money from this... and then overtime it just all came into place.

Honestly, I wouldn't even consider myself lucky -- what it really came down to, for me at least, was just putting in a lot of hard work and letting everything else just happen.

Sure, I had a lot of failures... but in the long-run, they were meaningless.

One of my other biggest changes is viewing expenses as investments, rather than wasted money.

If I didn't invest into my business -- I would have never found success.

So what about you... How long did it take you guys to actually get profitable?

    Hi Mogly,

I agree with you that you must view expenses as investments, you don't lost money, you bought data.

You have succeeded because you don't gave up, you worked hard and I congratulate you for this. You had the mindset of a winner, you were not looking for a rich quick scheme.

It took me 16 weeks to have my first $1,000 of pure profit day. Some have said that I have been lucky but I remember very well this day (of course!). I had more than 20 campaigns running, with an average of maybe 50 ads, and just 3 very profitable.

There is no secret. The time it take to get profitable depends of the effort you put in your business. And, I admit, a bit of luck does not hurt!

I started making profit almost immediately, but I used the approach of becoming a content writer. I was writing 500 word articles for $15 a pop for a client that was providing me with enough work to pay the bills and keep my head tuned into this online thing. I agree, learning to trust my instinct, get out of service providing, and invest in my own business was the biggest step I took.

I always find this question interesting because there are so many ways to answer it with different numbers while still being technically "correct".

Regarding the "real" businesses I've been involved with over the years, usually a year or two. But those had real overhead and required real startup capital... office, staff, etc.

As for passive stuff/info products, it's harder to gauge. If you're referring to the labor required to produce an info product, then technically I was "profitable" within about 6 hours. I spent a few hours writing up a strategy guide, started selling it online, and did $9k in the first month.

But is that a "fair" answer? I guess that depends on how you look at it. Because the knowledge that it took to be able to create that product was acquired over many years.

Back in 2002 I released my shareware product. It took me 2 weeks to sell my first product.

... but it wasn't until 2008 that I had my best ever month as far as sales value went.

It all depends on the business model and how diversified are your traffic sources. I had many mini sites that depended on google search traffic and post panda penguin updates, these sites lost rankings and traffic.

If you have a good sales funnel with diversified traffic sources then you can make consistent money.

It took me 2-3 years to make my first 100, then i was able to get quickly on $xxxx
But it was only because i stopped buying IM products, stopped reading and applying different IM methods, and only looked in myself if i was expert in something, and i came to know that i was
So i started sales thread on different forums regarding it and then things went up pretty quickly
In these circumstances you always feel what were you doing all these years, and if only i knew it earlier,
But every good thing has best time to come, not before not later !

i used someone else's website and toyed around with a few pages... using info i read off the internet to try to figure it out

1 webpage took like a year to see $100... mostly due to poor original planning of the layout and what the page was about... i found a spike in new keywords and changed up the content a bit.

another better planed page was making some steady traffic in 2 months... and made my first hundred in 3 - 4 months....

the first one took 6 -7 months to get to a high spot for some okay key words... medium competition and low traffic expectancy

the second one went up right to the top of google after a few months... kinda low traffic for the key words but low competition and good conversation as it had what people wanted to know and a place to buy what they wanted right by each other.

A few years ago when I didn't know too much I had a great start actually, the site ranked in the top 5 for a keyword with a lot of searches within two weeks and the site made $200/month in no time.

However I ranked it with a whole bunch of Fiverr gigs so although I did make my money back big time it did tank within months.

After that I dived more serious into this business and then it took me about 4-5 months to become pretty profitable and in a stable ever growing way.

I have to say that I read a lot before I actually got started so all together you can say about 2 months before I made my first dollar.

There is no fix time frame guys. It all depends on urgency and how serious you are. It's like learning to drive, lot of things to remember to start with, but once you know than it's on auto mode.

The Beauty of the internet, is that the sites or should I say blogs (free ones) still up to this day...bring me an Income, you can't say the same about any other business.

It took me almost 7 moth to make my first penny... But that same blog keeps bringing $300.00 every year.

Now I know what you thinking $300.00 a Year ?!?!?!?!?

    Yes, thats right a year.

now you do the math $300.00 a year X 245 Free blogs more or less at the time of this post making me money?!?!.

After 6 months of screwing around, I finally made my first $100 check from a passive system. It took about 18 months before I was able to live comfortably from internet marketing ($3k+/month). After 3 years, I broke my first $100k year. I'm about 5.5 years into it now and my business has done close to half a million in 2013.

Funny part is the $500k has come from the exact same system I made the first $100 check.
