Recording Conf Calls (Skype)

I'd like to record a conference call that I'll be on using Skype. Does anyone know if there's a way to do that - maybe with some function that Skype offers?

Thanks,
Richard

Skype does not have a recording program inside at the moment so you need to get a third party recorder.

The two I use is Pretty May and Pamela and both work well though you can get others.

I did a review of them on my site at:

Not going to be much help today, but I found this:
Record-Anything - Free software downloads and reviews - CNET Download.com

That's assuming you're using Windows. For Mac, I use WireTap Pro to record just about anything.

Thanx Quentin - Grant - Michael!

      I'm a non-techie, so a couple of questions:

      1) Since I asked about recording Skype calls, I am assuming your suggestion(s) work with Skype calls, right? (Like, I dial into the Skype call, I've got my headset on, the call starts, I click a "record" button or whatever & it magically records the call?)

      2) I'm assuming - hoping - it will allow me to save the recording as an audio file or whatever, so I can somehow (I think I know how to) load it onto my blog to allow a visitor to simply click on it, play it and hear it?)

      Thanks,
      Richard

Yes. You'll want make sure the sound recording software you choose captures all sound outputs. Then, all you should need to do next, is use the call test feature in Skype and record it with the sound recording software.

It should allow you to save the recording as an MP3. There will be other formats available, but that's sounds like the best choice for what you're wanting to do.

For example, I start recording sound with the recorder, then I open the Skype application and make a call.

When I'm done with the call, I hang-up, then stop the recording software. Then, it should allow me to choose a file format and save it where I want.

Why not have a practice call with someone before your actual conference call, just to make sure you get the procedure down pat.

          Cheers

            Grant -

            Thanks.

BTW, does either Pamela or Pretty May allow you to edit the call, i.e., delete certain parts of the audio file that are relatively poor quality or really off-topic ... or like the beginning of the calls, where people chatter amongst themselves - audibly - until the call is officially started by the moderator and everybody is muted?

            SusanneUK -

            Good suggestion. Thanks.

I don't have an answer to that question because I'm not familiar with either application. Sounds like you're moving from recording, into editing now. Two different things.

Unless what you're wanting is an application that can edit out those things WHILE you're recording the conversation.

I'd have to search for those myself, because I just haven't looked in that direction

Grant: Thanks. I'll search for software that will allow me to do some basic editing of the audio file.

AlexKandr: Thanks, but - not being very technical (obviously) - I'm little confused. After reading into it further, I see that the Skype plug-in,
G-Recorder, not only records Skype calls, but also plays them online - without having to download an MP3 file.

      1) Does that imply that I can (it does) save the audio file as an MP3 file?

      2) And does that also mean I can put a link on my blog (or however you do it) so that people can just click it to play it and hear it?

      Thanks,
      Richard

Pamela is installed with Skype these days, but you'll need to upgrade to record long calls.

I used CallGraph for awhile. it's free and works well, but Pamela is a tad easier.

For either you will need to do your editing in another program.

It is only a long shot that you'd be using a Mac, but you can Skype someone up and open Garage Band to record the conversation. Editing the final output is a snap.

How can you set up audacity to record skype? That would be useful! tutorial?

I know there was a reason I did not like Audacity. Could it be that it does not output to an mpg format?

In any case, I tried that and it did not work for me. I ended up using some other recording software to edit my calls.

SkypeCap (www skypecap com) works excellent. It records both video and audio and there's version for Mac OS as well.

In Audacity, set the recording source to "What you hear".

Everything that goes to your speakers or headphones will then be recorded.

Thanks, Guys! All helpful, especially Audacity setting to "What you hear" suggestion. I like the "sounds" of SkypeCap (pardon the pun) - just wish it were cheaper.
