Frustrated and other suitable adjectives...

Truthfully, I have no idea why I am posting this. I have no question, or really any idea of what I'm going to say after this sentence. I guess I am just ranting because I feel...as the title of this post suggests...frustrated.

I am not frustrated because Internet Marketing does not work...it does. It just does not seem to be working for me. In large part, this is due to my information overload and lack of focus. However, over the last few months I have been extremely intentional, unsubscribed from dozens of lists, and done everything I know to keep focused on that profitable 20%.

Still...I find myself at the very beginning, almost at the starting line...only this time I have lost that excitement. A part of me wants to take some time off, but another part of me realizes the importance of sticking with it for the future's sake.

I feel as if I'm running into a brick wall, and I'm just not sure where to go next. Is it that I have a limited mind set? Do I simply not have the IM skills I thought I had? Is it just bad luck?

I honestly think it's just because I have not stuck to a strategy long enough. It's so tempting though...the prospect of making some quick cash...when you're working a minimum wage job, trying to support a family, and not making anything with IM. I keep thinking maybe I should scrap article marketing for PPC. Or maybe I should quit building blogs, and stick to landing pages. Then when I make the switch, after a week or so, the cycle starts all over.

I'm not looking for some get-rich-quick scheme, so don't misunderstand me when I talk about "quick cash". I mean just a few dollars a day is enough to keep me motivated.

Here's what I dream about...befriending a successful Internet Marketer, looking over their shoulder, learning from them...

...heck I'd even do the work for them and let them keep the cash...

I understand the importance of coaching and mentor-ship in life. In many ways I guess this forum could be my new mentor, but in another sense, that can only go so far.

There's a lot more twirling around in my mind. But I've rambled enough for now. Sorry for not really contributing anything, I just felt like typing a bit before I called it a night.

Good day all.

Do not give up dt. We all start with massive enthusiasm because of all the
dollar signs flashed in front of our faces. To many people prey on the struggling
barely getting by folks, although there is alot of well intentioned, genuine help out there.

The key is to not lose your drive, information overload will burn you out faster than
anything. The success will come but does involve work, perserverance and some
time to come to fruition. It is easy to get distracted from one strategy to another, try and stay focused on 1 or 2 at a time.

What kind of budget are you working with, can you afford ppc. If not there are many low cost effective ways to get noticed and begin the process. Video marketing is very effective and inexpensive. Have faith, the day will come when everything will come together. Keep on rocking, MIke

That's some great advice MIke. I recently read "5 Bucks A Day" by Dennis Becker. It was pretty revolutionary in how I approached Internet Marketing, and helped me see the importance of focus.

My budget for PPC is pretty low...$50 a month. I'm not willing to spend any more until I see a good ROI.

Video marketing is something I've been curious about, but truthfully not too excited about being filmed...Whatever it takes though right!

Have a great day, and thanks again.

Well, you know the illness and you know the cure...

If you feel you can't decide on one path, try the following: choose 6 things that you could do right now which would move you towards your goal (the farther they would get you, the better -- i.e. something like "designing the best email signature ever" would not qualify...). Write them down and number them. Throw a dice and pick the option with the according number.

Do it. Stick to doing this for at least a month. Do not pursue any other paths during this time.

Once you have the feeling that you got started towards a goal (but only then!), you can incorporate other things besides this.

    Hope that helps,

I guess recognizing the problem is a big step in correcting it, right? Focus, Focus, Focus!

I love the idea of picking from a list of things. I referenced earlier Dennis Becker's "5 Buck's A Day" eBook, and this is very similar to what he proposed doing.

My only problem...of those 6 things, I don't know which ones will move me closer to my goal. In theory they all will, I just don't know which one will work the best. Which is why, I suppose, it is so important to pick one regardless, stick to it, and see what happens.

And rolling the dice may be just what I need to do!!

The only other rule after Focus, Focus, Focus is Test, Test, Test...right?

      Thanks for your help!

Well, what's the worst that can happen? You pick a less-than-optimal path. You still get to see some results. You get a lot of experience. You might be able to figure out a better path. Once the first thing is working and you've developed kind of a routine, you can easily switch to something else or add something more promising to your schedule.

So, I guess, the worst thing that could happen is that you do something and see some consistent success.

And rolling the dice may be just what I need to do!!
If you are uncertain which route to pick, rolling the dice can help you choose because then you won't consistently wonder if you have made a wrong decision -- after all, it wasn't you but pure luck which decided...

        Good luck!

Glad that you are ready to hit the sky. Even since 1987 when I quited my 9 - 5 job, I have never look back. I venture with IM from 1997 and had my fair share of Ups & Downs. Each time, I learnt the lesson and move on to be better person.

So, glad that you are standing up again and move on. Yes, FOCUS and taking the right Action is what you need.

We all have our fair share for frustration and not finding the pot of gold. It is painstaking to look under every stone but result with nothing.

It always takes a lot of patience and a little bit of luck to find the right mentor or products that you can strike rich. Remember those days when I found a good opportunity that can easily make $2,000 - $8,000 monthly but no one seems to believe or willing to put in effort to build. So, my empire came crumbling down after 2 years of hardwork. I have moved on and now revive again. I do believe if you search and find a good source, then you must be willing to put 100% effort to build. It will take time to grow but one should persist on and the reward will come later.

Just like farmer who plough the land and plant the seeds. It takes a year before they can harvest the crops. So, be patient to find a good product and promote it. Focus and take action. Let it builds and you will harvest the crops when time comes.

Working online comes with Hard Work. I never believe when someone says it is easy. From the hard work, you will get the fruits. Then it will be easy as it will re-generate itself (if you have automate the process). That is what I do, build up one and harvest it and re-generate by automation. Then move on to another niche ...

      Hi,

In your post you said you feel like you should take some time off.

If you feel that way then you should do it . . .

Give yourself permission to take some time off. Give it some time for all the info you have been learning to settle in your head.

Then come back fresh with a new plan and kick butt!!!

Action taken out of anxiety is never good.

Truthfully, just being able to vent a little bit has made be feel much better. A good night's rest, some very encouraging words of advice from warriors such as yourself, and I'm legitimately excited and ready for another day.

But the idea of "giving myself permission" is an excellent piece of advice...One I'm really taking to heart. And I especially love the quote, "Action taken out of anxiety is never good."

What are you trying to market online?
I have tried my hand in a number of different "niche" markets, mainly trying to sell information products, but also some weight loss supplements via a CPA network.

On a side note, based on your question...I've never quite understood why people are so secretive about their niche's. I understand drilling down deep within a market, and having long-tail keyword phrases to target, but being completely closed-lipped about a particular niche? Perhaps it's just because I've never found a "secret" niche or anything like that.

      ******************

You know, it's really encouraging to hear you say that about my potential. It really gives me hope. Especially your comment that "The difference between success and failure comes down to what you do when it stops being fun, and starts being work."

      Very inspiring...Thanks!

I can't tell you how encouraging it is to have you all "sniffing" out my future success...lol!

In all seriousness though...thank you very much. It's VERY encouraging.

The only reason I tend to switch back and forth is because I noticed when I multitask, it tends to dilute the effectiveness of each individual thing I'm working on. So I tried to focus on one thing at a time, measure its effectiveness, and then move on. The problem was that I would move on before ever being able to truly gauge an activities effectiveness.

So perhaps you're right, and I need to try a couple different methods at once. I guess the key though is in finding those things that, as you said, "stand out from the rest". It's just a matter of discovering what works for me in my situation...one way or another.

        Thanks again!

    Hey DT,

do not quit or make any harsh decisions right now. Everything
you are going through is a part of the whole learning process. You
are on your way to becoming successful and right now there is a pattern
    change in your mind.

Your mind doesn't like for it's patterns to change therefore there is a lot of
noise and contradictory there. Make no mistake, every failure you are experiencing
has an equiualent seed of success within it.

I would suggest you learn to meditate. That way you will increase your
focus and you will learn to quite your mind whenever you feel like it.
You will become much more productive and ideas will start flowing into your
    head.

    Good Luck.

You will become much more productive and ideas will start flowing into your
      head.

      Good Luck.

      Igor
I am actually a very spiritual person, and try...again I say, try...to meditate daily. Do you have any suggestions?

Also, you mentioned a pattern change in my mind. Could you speak more to that? What exactly do you mean, and how can I help this pattern change to continue?

I'm very interested in hearing more. Thanks so much!

Hang in there! I often get frustrated and want to give up, but I keep hanging on and things keep getting better.

Once you've made your first dollar online how can you turn around? The answer is you don't. One day you will look back on this post with a smile of disbelief.

    Derek,

You'll make a great marketer. You have a way with words.

In your own words...focus. Focus on becoming > a newbie.

    Then teach newbies.

You're a natural. I wish you were around a year before I started

    Steve

      Wow Steve, thanks so much!

I look forward to the day when I will be able to teach newbies like I am/once was...I just have to get there first.

It seems like you've been involved in the forum for quite some time, so your encouraging words mean a great deal.

      Have a great day!

I recommend you follow the Thirty Day Challenge course. It's free and brilliant. The "preseason" starts on June 1st.

It's IMO the best internet maketing course on the planet. Just Google "Thirty Day Challenge" and you'll find it. Ignore that it still says 2008 on it - you just sign up & you should get your email(s) about this year's challenge pretty soon after.

    Hey Derek,

I feel your pain man! I keep wondering if/when all my time and effort are going to show some positive results. I've been reading for years and finally trying to work a plan seriously for a few weeks now. I'm not really sure how long it might take before I start seeing something happening with article marketing efforts. I think actually, I'm probably about on track progress-wise. I'm not expecting to get rich quick. Just getting anxious to see some sign.

But I'm trying to stay focused on the articles. Focus seems to be a common theme here as you have no doubt noticed. I've been tinkering with other freebie things but more for future learning than my current campaign.

Even though I haven't made dime one yet, I am determined to make something work. Why? Because I have realized that I will never get where I truly want to be financially if I am trading my time for money. So I'm hoping that with my investment of that precious commodity I will reap the benefits later. I know this is what you feel too or you wouldn't be here either.

Keep plugging away dude and take a little break if you need to. I think we all have to step away sometimes to get a fresh perspective.

Good luck and let us know when get your first break. I know I will and I'll share exactly what I did (sorry, nothing revolutionary) to get it.

    Cheers,
    Tom

      Tom...

It seems as if you and and I are in the same boat my friend. I'd really like to dialogue more with you about what your strategy is, and maybe ways we might be able to benefit/learn from/encourage one another.

If you're interested and have a free minute, shoot me a PM.

Talk soon...and thanks for the encouraging words!

I see that you have made references to a lot of products - and this is probably why you are having a so called information overload.

Are you still buying products? If so, you should stop buying and start doing what it says and sticking with it.

A while ago, I thought to myself - why dont more people do internet marketing? I mean sometimes it is as simple as throwing up a wordpress blog, writing 10-15 articles and doing some minor link building and BAM you got a sale or two.

The last few months I have really started getting into IM and I now know why a lot of people dont do internet marketing.

Its because they dont get the results they expect and decide to move onto something else - like a real job where you get paid right away for the amount of work you do.

I think a lot of people can't really see down the road - in the sense that they are not willing to do work now, for a pay off that will come later on.

When you get a job, you get a paycheck every week or two. When you do work on IM, you may not see a pay off until 3-12 months later!

This is where people start to fall out - thinking they just wasted the month of work they just put in because they did not see that immediate cash reward they are so used to getting.
Well actually, I haven't purchased any products.

"5 Bucks A Day - Version 3" by Dennis Becker was free.
The Thirty Day Challenge is free.
And I don't think I referenced anything else.

I find it hard to buy IM products for the same reason I find it hard to invest more than $50 in PPC...I'm waiting to see a good ROI. Plus, with a little research you can find most anything you want in the Forum and/or Google.

But I can totally relate to your last statement about people thinking they just wasted the month of work they put in because they did not see that immediate cash reward. I have felt that way, and that is why I would get frustrated.

      Thanks for some great advice!

Everything you just stated is exactly what I hope to see happen in my IM ventures...

      - Stay honest and true to my beliefs
      - Have an enormous following
      - Always be passionate and adding value
      - To never give up
      - And of course...to be doing [more than] ok both short-term and long

      Thanks for the encouragement!
