    Hi

I offer them something niche visitors really want, they opt-in, I say to them "welcome, glad you joined our community: this is what you are going to receive next months..."

Tell us what you think, etc etc...

Then i have them on my Autoresponder series, i deliver good niche content for them every 4 days.

Hopefully i will be able to advice some products for them later on.

I have several blogs in several niches, but the concept is always the same and it works.I offer a short mini-course with deep going information and tips about the topic.

The main thing is to build traffic to the blogs and there is only one way, by writing excellent content.

    Hey

I just started to try and build a list, I signed up to Aweber and anyone that visits my blog and likes what I have to offer they can sign up to my newsletter.Or I have a free report to give away which the visitor just clicks on then they opt in and get the free report.

Its worth a name and email address.

    cheers

In addition to the above, I recommend you get a Twitter page and update it throughout the day. Each 'tweet' should link to more in-depth content in one of your list-building pages (Squidoo, blog, etc).

Treat Twitter as a place to post teasers that pick up leads and point them at your content. The content should then provide people with a reason to add themselves to your list (apart from being good content).

Each 'tweet' should contain at least one keyword likely to be used by people looking for that kind of information. For example, mine typically include keywords such as SEO, lead generation, online marketing, or copy writing.

Twitterites will find your 'tweets' via the search tool, and some will click through. As described in this post, Twitter works in a similar way to FFA Link sites back in the late 90s.

It helps if you're both creative and prolific in both your content creation and 'tweeting'. The more you do it, the better it works.

The way you do it, is you offer free information.
There are couple of things to set up first:

    1. capture page
    2. copy. a good one.
    3. free gift of some sort. it can be a report or a review, or a video
    or an ebook.

Yup I still make money with free offers all the time.

Going back to the thread, I use traffic exchanges, credit based safelists, and viral list builders to build my list daily.

Interesting. For the most part, are these repeat visitors that already know you, newbies, or are you not sure?

Getting sign ups is only the first step, so perhaps all that matters from your perspective is that the freebie gets them on the list?

In my case, I'm usually trying to use the freebie to further the sale (all my clients sell a product that can only be delivered offline).

I certainly don't see any difference in results between copy that includes a free digital download (ebook, newsletter, report) and one that doesn't. This is on regular client sites. Recent examples are an IFA, a maker of sofa beds, a printing company, a will writer, a wedding entertainer and a seller of perspex furniture). I do like to test though, so perhaps I'll discover something along the way.

I developed a totally new approach to online lead generation because freebies were no longer working, and email is too unreliable for my tastes.

I do use a freebie on one of my sites, but it only works if I include some of my time/expertise in the deal. One of my sites has a lead generation system that ends with a free analysis as a lever to get people to fill in the form. This does the job, and the analysis always turns up problems I can fix - leading to sales. But an hour of my time is an hour I could be doing something else. Thing is, if I try to replace myself with free information (e.g. an ebook, or pre-written report), response is essentially the same as making no offer.

This is very different to my years running an ad site pitched at the same market as this forum. And of course, very different to my days in Direct Marketing. But back then the freebies were physical items with intrinsic value.

It sounds like they still have power in the affiliate/online business market, which is interesting. Or maybe you know something about making free digital offers that I don't?

        I doubt.

I just deliver a free report on what my visitors want. They did came to me through a search engine query, and they want "this".

I give them just that, compiled and not conclusive, so i can work them later.

I am very new into this "list building" area but I am using this technique.

It works with SE visitors + niche sites/blogs.

        Hope it helps.

    Hi Delevonto1

Basic steps to build a list.

    1. First research a market that you want to build a list in.
    2. Research for all the keywords pertaining to that market
    3. Compile articles revolving around that niche market.
    4. Create a free eBook or bonus that you could give as an incentive for your visitors to signup.
    5. Create a blog using the main keywords of your niche market.
    6. Put up an email capture form on your blog by giving this free eBook away.
    7. Also create a Squeeze page giving away this free eBook
    8. Submit the articles to your blog first.
    9. Then submit the same articles to articles directories with a byline where you drive traffic to your squeeze page.
    10. Drive traffic to your squeeze pages using various traffic generating methods.

Yes it is a good idea to add the opt in form directly to your Squidoo lens and wherever else possible.

To learn more advanced strategies, you could have a look at my WSO Offer currently running. The Link is in my signature.

You could also download the free ecourse from the sales page where I show you 45 ways to build your opt-in list for free.

Well, it's not difficult at all to build a list. There are two ways to build a list - paid way and free way.
Paid way - use ppc, drive traffic by spending money in exchange for subscribers. You can use ppv or banner ads for this purpose. Remember, all these cost you money and my advice to you is to better learn to operate optimally before you get into these.
Free way - use article marketing, write 20 articles or more a day and distribute across all the major article marketing sites like ezine articles, goarticles, articledashboard, etc etc and get traffic to a squeeze page and capture the subscribers in exchange for something free but worth some value to your visitors.

This is so simple concept to grasp, but the real trick is in implementation part. Many people either don't want to spend too much money or they don't want to spend their time. Well, if you don't want to spend either of these, then you're not going to make any money online. Don't expect to get anything if you don't spend either money or time.
If you choose the free way, don't expect 1 article to get you 100 visitors a day. This is possible, but is very rare and if you want to get 100 visitors per article, then, expect to write and promote each article that you write.

This might seem simple, but listen my friend, this is what makes $$$$ for me.

    Thanks,
    J Jenkins

    All I do:

    1) Sqeeze page - Offer Something Free & Of Value
    2) Follow Up with valuable and free stuff
    3) Don't instantly start promoting stuff - Build your relationship first through giving stuff away
    4) When you do promote stuff, make sure it's of good quality, and don't hype it up and sell sell sell, just put it out there, and tell your subscribers why you think it's good etc

It's all in the report I give away at my website in my signature

Funny...not long ago I would have agreed with this,
but my mind has expanded to include promoting
products the moment they opt-in to your list.

This works for several reasons I won't get into here
(check out Igor's listbuilding product - it's golden).

I found...that people actually appreciate your free
offering MORE when they pay money for it in SOME
      way (your product or affiliate).

Generating a freebie list is cool, but how often do
you go into a grocery store looking for "freebies"?
(unless you plan on walking back out with hand
      cuffs)

In my opinion, I don't feel I'm being of much service
when I AM giving stuff away for free without giving
the prospect the opportunity to "appreciate" what
I shared with them by exchanging money.

But, I'm only sharing what works for me (and how
I prefer to do business). For many, the idea of a
buyers list is a sign of "greed"...only helping people
who have money vs those who don't.

But from MY experinece, you do more of a "disservice",
when they can't appreciate what you gave them if
you don't ask them to buy something upfront to
help them grow, than if you didn't give them the
      free offering at all.
