Looking for some opinions here:

Let's say you have a topic/niche "How to build a widget". It has not a lot of searches per month but it is fairly niche and you should rank well for it. The niche is such that you would be able to do ok with advertising.

So, would you:

a) Create an authoritative website on building widgets and use adsense to get advertising revenue, plus potentially affiliates.

or

b) Create a product (ebook) on building widgets and sell the ebook on your website?

Thanks
Chris

    Hi,

If you have a site with adsense on it, you are going to need good traffic so you get plenty of clicks. I am not sure how you will get affiliates with an adsense site.

If you create a product then you can sell the book on your website, and you can market it through clickbank and get affiliates that way. You can also build a list of people interested in widgets that you can sell to again and again. While creating a product could take some time, I think it has longevity and you will make more money on it.

    All the best!

    Ruth

    I'd do both.

I'd build a email list and would give that eBook for free / nominal fee as OTO after joining that list. Then I'd promote related "How to build a widget" affiliate offers to that list.

This way I could monetize user several times, instead of getting paid for clicks or sales.

I agree, doing both is the best option. Even making two sites, one feeding visits to the others. If you do an Ebook, best to get it on clickbank or some similar service that will allow affiliates to promote it.
