Accept Credit Card thru Paypal Without Asking User to Create Paypal Account

This is yet another Paypal question.

I know Paypal used to work like this: Customer goes through the buy page and they can choose to pay by credit card without signing up to Paypal, or they can also login to Paypal.

But now, it seems that Paypal is forcing users to create a Paypal account before they can even buy from you. So you can't really accept pure credit card payments only. And worse, when the customer creates an account, he can't pay you yet until he verifies his credit card (which could take a couple of days). Anybody experienced this too?

I visited my Paypal premier account and cannot find any option for disabling "Paypal Account Optional" in the settings, some users say they have this option. Do you have it? Anyway to get around with this?

I think this default behavior of the Paypal payment page could be costing you potential sales/customers.

I'd find another payment processor. Don't necessarily get rid of Paypal (I'm really not a fan of them, but I can't deny that many, many people use them), but provide a few alternatives, such as Alertpay or Clickbank.

    I haven't notice that.
If this is the truth, then I belief it will probably affect my business. Many of the newcomers don't have paypal account. They may not know how to register a paypal account and verify the CC.

      Mark,

Log into PP. Go to My Account>Profile. In the third column
'Selling Preferences', Go to 'Website Payment Preferences'.

Scroll down and you should see 'PayPal Account Optional'
with a couple of radio buttons to turn it on/off.

      Hope that helps.

        Hi Col,

Yes I've done that but I don't have that option, I've read in some forums that other users don't have this also, the worse thing is that some users have this option but still find their payment page forcing users to sign-up for Paypal.

      Hi Mark -

I just checked one of my products and it did allow me the option to pay with a CC and NOT sign up with PayPal. (In the interest of time, I did not complete the transaction.)

True, it is not clear that you can do so, but it looks as though it is still possible to pay with a CC and NOT open a PayPal acct.

** OK, I see from another post that this will vary by location **

Adding to Col's info, you might consider adding a couple of screenshots to 'splain the process.

I do agree with you that it could be an issue.

This doesn't happen with US based buyers and some other countries that are on PayPal's 'safe' list. If your country is outside of the "circle of trust" you have to register and verify the card.

I don't think it's a default thing that PP is forcing. I bought some stuff over the weekend w/o having to be forced into creating a PP account.

One retailer tried to force me, but they offered 2CO as an option and I took it.

I have a very longtime, verified PP account, but it's associated with a specific bank account, and I do not want PP having access to any other account information in the event that they, or some other "neer do well" gets "squirrely".

The business checking account that I have for my PP activity is ONLY used for PP (in fact, that is the name on the account... my LLC PayPal Transaction Checking Account). I have it set up at my bank to automatically do a balance transfer of everything except $100 on a daily basis. So the most I can ever lose at one time is whatever I did in a single day +$100.

    Never once had a prob.

Okay I think I'm convinced that this is a per location issue. Depending on what country you are in, you could be forced to sign-up first.

A friend of mine tried buying from my payment page, he was forced to sign-up, and then after he signs up, he was ask to verify his credit card before he can make a purchase.

This is what the screen shot looked like:

I think this is one serious Paypal pet peeve that leaves people from other countries helpless. I personally think it's quite unfair since VISA/MasterCard are designed to be used worldwide without any hassle.
