I used directory submission, social bookmarking, blog commenting, yahoo answers, article submission, press release.

Please don't use bulk linking packages like bulk wiki links, bulk edu links, bulk gov links.

I have a free web directory, you can list your website for free or paid. It is a PR3 web directory with fast approval.

        But what about video marketing?
If you have something useful to say in a humorous way, or an interesting way, then do video marketing. Youtube and the other video sites have lots of traffic, for sure.

The thing is it is pretty competitive, so you need to know what you are doing with it. Replying to videos that are in your field is one way to get the word out. Videos are also good links, and of course you can use them on your site and on multiple video sites.

To me, thinking about the end user and what you can provide for them is the way to go.

I think the best way to do things is to create regular, quality content and be active on social networking sites.

I think people should just avoid all the apparent methods of cheating such as automated backlink building, Google are likely to get you one day.

Do things properly and it will pay off one day.

I think you have to put a "face" on these techniques. If you just go about building links without regard to your niche, and without regard to interacting with real people, it will probably fail.

I'm in the directory industry and people that maintain quality directories don't waste their time with people that are just doing "link building" in and of itself.

    Traffic techniques for my blog:

    1. Social media marketing (biggie!)
    2. Content syndication - go here if you don't know what that is: http://www.warriorforum.com/member-c...ml#post8755998
    3. SEO.
    4. Blog commenting.
    5. Guest posting (less and less as syndication takes over)

    Monetization strategies:

    1. Affiliate marketing.
    2. My own products (coming soon!)

Other VERY important things to do:

    1. Build relationships with other marketers. As often as possible. Every time you communicate with someone, you should be trying to build a relationship.
    2. Listbuilding (duh...)
    3. Others.

I do quite a bit more, but this is all I can think of. Hope this could help!

    Regards,
    JR John

Hi Dave. The best way to market online is by Paid Media - Paying for ad space. However, I wouldn't recommend new marketers attempt any paid methods at first.

I would find a good 'System' to promote that is converting well. This system has to have higher ticket items that you can buy into and be 'positioned' to be able to sell at those levels. This is called true leverage.

Then you use free methods that the others have mentioned above, role up your sleeves and get to work.

Once you have made some higher ticket sales, you will now have established a marketing budget.

Invest 100% of your earnings back into marketing via Paid Ads.

Keep in mind that all of this will require a learning curve and a long term plan.

SMM - Social media marketing is going to replace SEM - Search Engine Marketing in the near future. It's bound to happen because the big G is all set to play the Sorcerer who knows it all and the very concept of search listing is going to change forever.

So, focus on social media - its going to pay off big time. If you need instant results, paid advertising [there are some secret untapped traffic sources too] is the way to go.

holy cheeze ballz, I've been hearing that SMM is going to kill SEM for literally YEARS NOW... and it hasn't yet. For some grey-hat wizards, it's easier than ever to game Google and bend it to your will.

I really believe that there are some basics to marketing that are just the foundation and they will always be effective. I read a great saying once talking about why something is effective or not.

A lot of good tips but it really does depend on what you are marketing and who you are marketing to.

You need to first find out where your buyers are and how they behave for you to know the right approach.

Think of the tiger who waits by the watering hole because he knows the prey has to come there for a drink sooner or later.

Know your prey and where their watering holes are. Once you know that the tactics you use will be more obvious.

I use 3 of the most powerful methods that can bring almost instant traffic and I only saw one slightly mentioned in all the posts above mine.

That method is building lists. I said lists because I build many segmented list so I can target the right audience. How many times have you heard the Money Is In The List?

The second method is to use Joint Ventures. Doing JVs is one of the quickest way to get your business moving. I have one list that has over 8,000 people on it that I have done some kind of joint venture with.

The third method is my affiliate program. I'm only one person and can only do so much. So I build affiliate programs so affiliate can help me sell my products.

I do post on other peoples blogs to add content and to build relationships with the blog owners so I can do joint ventures with them.

I hope this has been helpful,

Internet marketing is becoming complicated by the day, it is easy to take it for granted and think you can handle complicated issues like traffic without going through any proper learning. I moved from that long ago. I have a thorough training from SBI, the only e-business package accepted by over 30 Universities world wide.

They handle traffic in a way no one has ever dream of, i suggest you look at it first and get yourself some good fundamentals before you venture. Here: SBI! - Funnel Traffic To Your Primary Site

Well, i know that everybody seems to sharing a "white" technique on marketing a product online: making website and do some SEO on it. I totally agree with it. And I know it really great to have automatic traffic to your website everyday, without you doing a thing about it.

But other than that, if someone just looking for a quick selling, i think facebook groups posting still give good result. Need active effort, but good return. In fact, it's better than doing traffic exchange or safelist (though i am still using it today, cause basically the power of marketing is just based on quantities only - the more someone see yours, the more interested they get).

Blog walking, free classified ads, still working quite good.

But agree: social media and social bookmarking sites like tumblr, delicious, reddit, can not be put aside.

          Dave,
I'm a big fan of using whitepapers and email to drive inbound contacts from prospects. Pretty simple, easy to implement & track, and I'll generally charge either a monthly or an upfront + monthly. It's not as sexy as the "automated" systems you hear about and it takes real work, but the money's good, you're providing useful services, and there's upsells as well.

There are just so many out there, Dave.

It comes down to what YOU want to do.

Part of being an Entrepreneur is making
a decision and sticking with it no matter
    what...

    ...because no matter WHAT technique
    you choose...

...you will face obstacles, challenges, &
a number of challenges along the way.

It's just part of the initiation process.

I could tell you that I'm a professional
    trader (Binary and Forex)...

...and I could say I do email marketing
    part-time.

    Both of which are true.

...but has no way of serving YOU.

If you want the SMARTEST way to start,
    email marketing takes the cake.

But what if you're a programmer with
    vast experience building websites?

You could build your own and flip for
    profit.

What if you have a background in sales?

Local SEO may be up your alley.

    Other than that...

...you don't have a shortage of ideas to
choose from. But whatever idea you DO
    choose.

    STICK WITH IT!

    ...through thick and thin.

I stalk my potential customer. I go where he goes. I follow her.

I know them better than I know my family. Then, when I can clearly identify where they are going to be, and when...then I jump out of the bushes...

This startles them, confuses them but gets their attention...then I calm them down, relate my product to them in a way that convinces them my "attack" was the best thing to ever happen to them.

But to use this technique successfully, it requires a lot of "stake out" time, a lot of knowing what they want, where they go looking for it...then just getting on their path and the rest spells success.

    PS. Metaphor...got one?
