Getting 1k+ hits/day for past few days on my site - how can I monetize?

Hey all,

I created a parody / satire news website, Spin Atlantic, a few days ago. Through some lucky upvotes in Reddit among other things, I've been getting 1k+ hits per day for the past few days.

Anyone have any tactics for monetizing this sort of traffic if it is consistent / growing?

And, on a side-note, does anyone have any thoughts on how to generate more traffic to the site?

Thanks!

For this type of website, I (in my humble opinion) would suggest some sort of advertising - either direct advertising or AdSense.

Direct advertising (just in case someone doesn't know) is when you directly contact someone, and they ask you to put up their ad or link to their content on your website for a fixed rate per month/day/year/week/whatever.

As to getting more traffic, SEO is always a good option (for the above monetization strategies). Also consider forum marketing - I bet there are tons of forums along the same lines as your website.

Given its nature, however, the number one traffic tool I can suggest is social media marketing. Hit up this part of the website for more info: Social Media Marketing Forum

    Regards,
    JR John

Don`t rush, and don`t just try to monetize a week of traffic. Try to make it the normal daily traffic for the website. Then you can monetize it with adsense or whatever.

I agree. Give it a month or two and try understand your visitors and their demographics a little better and see if the traffic levels out.

You can check out Adsense, BuySellAds and see which one work best.

My biggest tip for you would be to retain as much of that traffic as you can by making it a priority to get them to enter their email address for blog updates...

If you can get quite a bit of your traffic to do that then you can keep them coming back to your site as often as you like as opposed to losing a lot of the traffic you're getting because they visit your site once and never come back...

Another point is I think with a site like this you have to be careful...I don't know where you're getting some of the images you're using but it seems lately that a lot more people have been getting in trouble for copyright violations...even with images that have been altered...so be careful...

Likewise, you have to be prepared that if the site takes off in a major way you might have to be concerned with people (celebrities in particular) suing you for defamation and all manner of things like what happens with the 'National Enquirer' from time to time.

I know that this doesn't answer your questions but it's things you need to consider and weigh whether it's worth the time, effort, money and hassle to work with a site like this that's already going to be difficult to monetize because it's not a site targeted toward a clear and commercially viable market...

What you could do is email submits and other similar CPA offers...to get an idea of what you could do with email submits is you could check out the following WF thread:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/ad-netwo...-4-months.html

It's an old thread and I don't know how well email submits pay anymore...plus I heard that they get "scrubbed" pretty hard (meaning that if they feel that you're not providing enough "good" emails they'll only pay you for a certain number as opposed to all of them)...

However, with a site like this it's worth considering the email submits because the traffic doesn't have to really be all that targeted and the demographics can be all over the place (which they might be for a site like this)...

Moreover, you can mix it up where it's not about the "Illuminati"...

For example, your 'fake news story' about Daniel Radcliffe and Elijah Wood you could do a survey which says who would make a better Frodo...and it could lead to a CPA offer...

Plus you wouldn't have to necessarily do it on YouTube like the thread mentioned...you could do it directly on your site...the thread just offered YouTube as a traffic generation solution to get people to the CPA offers...but you could actually use YouTube as a way to generate traffic to your site.

Furthermore, Facebook and Twitter are probably good traffic mediums for a site of this nature...not certain exactly how you would get traffic from Facebook and Twitter but there are multiple ways outlined right here on the WF so look for threads about using Facebook and Twitter to get traffic.

I would leave it a bit longer before trying to monetize the site.
Then you couuld try some CPA offers related to individual posts, for example you could put a CPA offer for a chance to win a Xbox One or PS4 on your post - "Xbox One Sells 1 Million Copies In 24 Hours By Cleverly Hiding A Playstation 4 Inside Each Console"

I LOVE your site. Had me laughing out loud just from your titles.

Do you write this stuff? If so, you've very clever and you have a potential goldmine on your hands if you keep putting out that kind of content.

Here's what I would do if I were gifted with your wicked sense of humor:

    1. Check out Cracked.com and other massively popular humor websites and see how they're monetizing. Look for CPA, Adsense placement, opt in forms, etc.

    2. You need to get on Facebook. This stuff will go crazy viral and you can explode your traffic from Facebook alone.

    3. Experiment with Pinterest ... I'm not sure how humor does on Pinterest, but check out some humor Pinterest boards to see if they get traction. If so, another potential monster traffic source.

    4. I can see your site continuing as a Reddit fave. Just keep doing what you're doing and Reddit folks will take care of you (you might have to nudge it along).

Man, you're in for a great ride with a tsunami of traffic where even Adsense can make you a bundle if you focus on the great content and set up some social media platforms.

Good luck. I'll be back for sure.

Adsense. You can just put one ad on each page.

Then get right back to doing what ever you did and keep the traffic coming.

    Congrats

You have got rich text posts so it seems that adsense+infolinks can do gr8 for you

Plus if you can add more images on your blog posts like 5-10 then there are chances that you can further increase your traffic using pinterest+stumbleupon
