Question about JV with fellow newbie...

My fellow Warrior friends....

Suppose I knew of someone here in the forum who was a fellow newbie like myself. They had created their own product with good potential, only they lack effective sales copy and are struggling with limited marketing resources. I feel I could be of service to them in regards to site design, copy, and a couple other things.

Both of us are struggling, but I really feel we could compliment each other. In essence, make each other more successful.

I have considered approaching this person with my ideas, but wasn't sure of the best approach...and since they are a newbie as well, I thought I would get a working proposal together before hand rather than us both trying to figure things out on the fly.

I suppose this could be considered a joint venture???

I thought about offering a one-time fee to do some work for them, but I'd rather think long-term here.

Truthfully, I'm not sure exactly what my question is, I was just hoping someone could point me in the right direction. This is very new to me, but I am excited at the prospect. I just want to do my homework first.

How do we ensure our fair share of profits?
Are there any contracts we need to draw up, or terms to consider?
Is there a time-frame involved?

I have a ton of questions about joint ventures, and I don't know if the ones I asked even make sense. I will be doing some more resource in the forum. Until then, your advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Derek

  • Since you are both newbies, and quite frankly so am I, I would suggest you discuss things further to find out how the JV could benefit both of you and what things you would both be expected to bring to the table. Once you lay those things out on the table I think you will have a better idea on where you can reasonable expect the partnership to head.

As for contacting them, I would just send them a PM, email, etc. Think about how you would like to be contacted...

Yes, that is what I will do. I was just spending some time to get my thoughts together before hand.

      Thanks!

It's funny. I am looking for a partner who loves marketing and sales, and is also looking long term, and you fit the profile. I have several already established web sites with traffic, products and lists. I can't post my proposal because I haven't used this forum in such a long time, my posts have been reset. I also can't PM you until I reach 20 posts.

Oh well,, I'll have to wait until I reach 20 posts. And see what happens then.

Every post is a step closer!

I sent you a PM. I know you can't send them, but perhaps you can receive them. We'll see...

          Hi Derek,
I received your PM, but I can not reply.

Nevermind, in due time I'll be able to.

Looking at some of your posts, it seems you ready to chomp at the bit, but just need some focus and direction.

Look, I can't post anything in the JV area yet and I'm not about to make 20 useless posts just to be able to. Maybe in a few days I'll see fit to get to 20. I just want to make sure my posts have value (the reason I stopped posting in forums about a year ago was there was too much to wade through to find value).

But I'd love to show you what I have and see if it interests you. As I said, I have the businesses established, I mainly want to focus on product creation, webinars, client interaction etc, and find someone who 'loves' the sales and marketing side, even if they are 'P' platers.

            Well, you've definitely intrigued me.

So I'll see you in a couple of days.

I guess you could pm me your email or something if your so intrigued LOL

I am amazed at how busy this forum has become, and in such a relatively short time.

A jv is like any other business deal. Go into it with all the points taken care of .

If you are a newbie as well then it will be hard for you to leverage a commission of over 50 %.

Remember , just because a sales page is not a perfect blueprint of what the gurus says it has to be , this does not mean it will not convert .

If you go in right off the bat and criticize this persons material you may be looking for another jv partner . Tact is a good thing .

This is some of the things I look for in a jv partner .

Basic likability . If I don't like you , you can't talk me into doing business with you .

List size . Since I do not rely on (the standard) sales pages to sell my stuff , a list that I can warm up is a must . While I never ask for the actual list , I do offer content to be emailed .

Once these two things are established I then worry about the monetary aspects . If you come after me to jv I will very seldom go over 50%. If I seek you out I will offer up to 70% on the slo, 50% on the upsale and down sale . 50% on the back end and a single tier 50% on the residual. The point is if I seek you out then you have a lot to offer . If you seek me out then most of the time I have more to offer than you do.

There are some individuals I would give 100% of the slo to just to capture the list .

A jv"s percentages really depend on who is bringing what to the table .

Wow, that was some very helpful info. Thank you very much.

I totally understand what you're saying about tact. That is very important. Thankfully, the other party already confessed that their material was not up to par, and it was not converting.

And about the percentages...I'm so new to this game, but so hungry to learn, that I would settle for less than the 50%. Perhaps that is foolish. Perhaps it would be a worthy investment in my education that will yield even more profits down the road. Time will tell I suppose.

In regards to the list, neither of us have one. So, I guess we're at a level playing field there.

You've offered some really helpful info. Thanks so much!

Just reach out to them. Chances are you won't get rejected like some Guru jerk would do to you. Take action, have a thick skin, the worst that can happen is they don't respond or just say no, or show up at your door wanting a handout.

Yes, just reach out to them like George suggested. And always strive for that win-win proposition. After all, it's only a "good" deal, if it's a good deal for both parties.

      Good luck...bj
