Creating and monetising video content

Hi all,

I'd be interested to get your thoughts on a couple of things relating to video content:

Firstly, is anyone on here producing and successfully monetising videos? If so, what is the main source of income from these videos - ads? Product sales?

Secondly, do you make your own videos or employee freelancers to make them for you? And, if you employee freelancers, where do you hire them? Elance?

I'm interested in getting some videos created, but I don't have everything necessary to make my own.

For example, I have sites in various pet care niches, but don't currently own every one of those pets personally - I'd be interested in hiring a freelancer to put some video content together for me, but asking for a freelancer, who is knowledgeable, can make a good video, and has a specific pet, seems like a very specific request!!

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

I don't really make all my money from videos alone but I do know a little something something about video marketing and I have attracted many leads to my business using video.

In my experience it's not really that much about how fancy or professional your video looks, it's about the message, many companies or businesses have these super elaborated videos that don't attract any customers because all they do is talk about WHAT they do (Products, Features, Benefits). And that's all cool and dandy but it will not generate loyalty or trust from customers.

To make a successful marketing video all you need is a camera and a powerful message that people can relate to and rally behind. For instance when you think about marketing a pet care products, think about the people who buy them, they are people who love their pets and love to make their pets feel good and healthy, because they are their friends and companions.

Speak to WYH you do what you do, not WHAT you do, just pop on a camera and the results will show my friend...

    Hope this helped

    • Look into LeadPlayer - it is expensive, but allows you to but links/email submits in the video when playing on your site. That might be what you are looking for.

One thing I learned early on is to outsource whenever possible. Wasted time trying to do everything yourself is one of the stumbling blocks that I encountered. I thought I could do it all. I ended up learning a ton....but didn't enjoy the process or the stress. Stick to what you are good at and outsource the rest!
