Marketing videos with a french accent

Hi everyone,

I'm french and I would like to create marketing videos and trainings in english
in order to share my knowledge about making money online to english speaking community.

So, I am fluent in french and speak pretty well in english but I have a french accent and not a vocabulary as reach as a native english speaker, but enough vocabulary to make good video trainings.

I would like to know how would you perceive a french accent in video marketing or video trainings? Supposing that the content brings a lot of added value, would you perceive a french accent as a benefit and a way to differentiate, would you be neutral about it, or would you consider it "unprofessional" because it doesn't use and sound like the elaborated and slang words online US gurus are using?

Thank you guys for sharing your thoughts, a lot of my strategy and future work will rely on your answers.

Best,
Remy

  • I have started Internet Marketing in French and have listened to French marketers say some words in English, they still kept the French accent but I could understand easily.

My thought is that the French language will not really be an obstacle, what matters is that you speak clearly and explain well what you have to offer. If you can pronounce in a way that native English speakers can understand, then you are good to go.

I will go further to say that the French accent, or even letting people know in advance that you are a French speaker could potentially attract more people to check out your product, because they will be thinking "if he comes to offer something to the English IM world, it must be something valuable". I'm saying this from my own observation and experience.
  • French and London accents (as long as they are understandable) will increase opt-in and conversion rates in the U.S.

When I outsource video content creation its something I ALWAYS look for.

  • I agree that there should be no problem having a french accent in your videos. As long as you have good quality audio at a reasonably high volume, it will be fine.

You may also want to consider providing transcripts or text-versions of your trainings so people can follow along with the video.

Talk with a lot of enthusiasm and demonstrate that you know what you're talking about!
  • try fiverr.com
  • No problem with any accent if what you are saying is good.

Jean Claude Van Damme has a huge following and many women love his accent. He offers a ton of value to his audience.

    • Rory mentioned it above, but I'll say it anyway... If my wife is remotely normal (and I'm pretty sure she is !) then any French accent is gonna be a surefire winner on the selling scene - especially if you're selling to the ladies.

For my 2c, as long as you talk clearly so that people can understand you, that's the main thing. And that's not sarcasm by the way, many native English speakers don't talk at all clearly. It's just their regional dialect isn't clear !

But it might be worth considering to provide a service that appeals mainly to women, and use your God given natural charm, - it will be a winner for you.

      Bon chance
  • If I can understand what you are saying and it is of value I could care less what accent you have :-)

    Good luck mon ami
  • I don't think accent matters at all as long as there is value and quality in the product.
