The email metric that is way better than open rate, click rate and even sales

This may sound weird but this is what I found out recently.

I have been sending frequent emails to my subscribers and besides open and click rates (which is not the most accurate way of tracking the effectiveness of your campaign) I got some leads.

Nothing unusual since sales is the main reason you write those emails anyway.

But what I got besides sales is the response from my subscribers.

Some told me how much they enjoyed my emails while others just want to give me their piece of mind (in a nice way).

I realize that these response and the emails that they response to are goldmine because I got a glimpse of what topics made them tick (response) and how I can write follow up emails with similar angle.

If you are not saving emails that your subscribers are sending you, you are missing out on an opportunity to get into the mind of your subscribers.

Does it make sense?

It still doesn't tie in with your post title.

Yes it's good information but it's definitely not better than sales.

People can tell you they like your free information all day but if they're not buying anything then you have no business.

I have to agree with this. At the end of the day, converting actual sales is the best measure that your sales funnel works.

I didn't understand what's that email metric better than CTR. Is it the number of replies?

How do you assess a certain case based on that metric? The more replies, the better the email? [while many clicks, lots of sales + 0 replies = bad email marketing message? ]

While getting feedback is important, tell "the more replies, the better" to someone who has a large list, let's say 500k subscribers

P.S. CTR involves some kind of feedback too. CTR shows you the brutal truth, without being polite, without hiding reality, without wasting anyone's time Poor CTR? Your marketing sucks! Anyway usually no one will waste the time offering you detailed explanations. Excellent CTR? Your marketing is good. Etc.

Sales will always be a more important metric than opens, clicks, etc. Of course your open rate is important because it tells you how well your subject line is performing and what type of relationship you have with your subscribers (good, bad, average).
