Buying my own Web server

I was wondering if this would work. If I am running 10 sites with only 1-4k traffic a day total would it make since to try and run my own server instead of paying a grand a year for the 10? I could keep building sites, and if one generated enough traffic that it slowed things down I could transfer the one to paid hosting. Also the server would have to be in the 1-2 thousand dollar range to fit into my budget. Was just wondering.

You don't need to spend a grand a year for hosting 10 sites. Shop around and take advantage of the good deals this time of year. It can be done for way less money. Remember there are both time and money concerns when you have to maintain your own hosting, not to mention the considerable up front cost.

Don't forget to consider the colocation costs of the server too.
