Easy way to block spam in squirrelmail?

Ok I know I probably sound like a moron posting this, but I'm not finding a simple solution in google so I figured I'd just ask here and see if someone can just give me the quick and dirty solution.

I don't have squirrelmail "installed" anywhere like a lot of the google results seem to be assuming...I just log into cpanel, pick the squirrelmail option, and check my mail.

I just want to block friggin spam in squirrelmail....not sure why I'm having such a hard time figuring it out lol. If I'm an idiot then so be it, but if anybody has the answer or can point me to a link with the answer without having to read tons of technical mumbo jumbo, I'd sure appreciate it

Well, I never use the email clients on my hosting account because I always
use an external email client like Outlook, Windows Live Mail, or Thunderbird.

In your cpanel, go to "Email Accounts" and then "Configure Email Client" (with Hostgator).
You should be able to set up your email account using an external email application.

This will give you more control over spam and you'll be able to login without using your cpanel.

Thanks. Yeah I'm in cpanel looking through the options now. I'm just an idiot when it comes to email lol. Never used an email client or anything fancy, just a million different yahoo mail accounts. I'm just used to having a simple "mark as spam" checkbox and there's nothing like that in squirrelmail. Thanks for you help.

Use SpamAssassin rules or SpamExperts. There are external spam filtering companies that you can use to filter incoming emails.

The mail clients are liightweight mail clients, that's it.
