Listing the price as an Amazon associate

I can't find anything in their TOS about listing the price for products you're promoting on your website, but I've been reading that it may be against their TOS to do so.

The thing is, almost every associate/affiliate site I see is listing a price, even the massive ones like thisiswhyimbroke.com and thewirecutter.com, they all list the prices. As does petagadget.com

So what's going on here? I cannot find anything about this or a definitive answer anywhere on the internet.

The program I use updates the Amazon price on an hourly basis (it is coordinated with Amazon.) If you're getting the price and posting it where you have to manually update they might have an issue because it would soon be out of date.

I know they know what I am doing and no issues with it.

Be helpful if you told me what this program is. :p

Amazon Associates has had a Live Chat support since September I believe. They will answer this for you.

As far as I know Amazon goes out of it's way to provide dynamic pricing code for each product you promote - is there a reason you don't use their provided links or are you simply curious?

I've only been here a few days and it seems like it's almost impossible to ask a question on this forum without someone trolling.

I'm not an Amazon associate yet, still waiting to see if they approve my application. I'm just trying to get a handle on the details before I begin.

Basically you can list the price using their wigets or API, but you can't just place it on the site as regular text as it will not get updated automatically when the price changes, causing confusion among your and Amazon's visitors. Same goes for Amazon's product star rating and basically every other piece of information that is dynamic (number of customer reviews, current discount, whether free shipping is available or not, etc.).

Urgh, but their widgets are so god damned ugly.

The sites I listed in the first post aren't using widgets to list the price, it looks like plain html to me.

I haven't checked the sites, but a call to the Amazon API can display results in what can appear like regular text, while in fact it is dynamic data from the API. So the appearance of the data doesn't indicate where it was retrieved from. (Remember the API is not the same thing as the Widgets.)

I'd recommend learning how to do things yourself first before using any plugins, otherwise you might not even realize when the plugin isn't working or if it's doing something wrong.

Yes I agree about the plugins, the amazon affiliate ones seem particularly bad from what I've seen. In fact when I'm doing most of my development I never use plugins, they're always a headache.

I've been looking at the amazon API, but good god is it a labyrinth.

    Hi itsandy,

If you are using wordpress, you can use amazon plugin. You can find many amazon plugins in WSO or if you don't want to buy, try search for them at WordPress › WordPress Plugins

I am using Amazon Link. You can find it here.
