Sorry to be such a 'wimp' but there is so much info on here how does one know where to start. Everyone seems to have the 'Golden Bullet' but they cant all be right surely.

You were all beginners once so can anyone (without all the hype) point me in the right direction to get started...and no I dont have a huge budget

    Hey Naire,

Also a newbie here also. I think you need to take two actions:

Keep reading the forum - I find it hard as the threads move so quick.
Pick a product and stick with it - don't buy a few, just get one and stick with it. Check out the reviews section for an idea which one to go for.

Hope this helps. If you're interested in bouncing ideas of each other just PM me.

Since I am a fellow beginner, I will share two things that have helped me.

New? -- Read This! > This is Ebbi's post to help us newbies get started here in the Forum.

Also, I would point out Ed Dale's Thirty Day Challenge It is free and a great resource for beginners.

My best advice...Focus. Focus. Focus. Don't try and learn everything at once. I can speak from experience..it will kill you. Just pick one thing you're interested in and go from there.

    Best of luck to you!

The best thing that any newcomer can do is check out a guy called Chris Farrell.

Chris Farrell - Create Your First Website By 3:45 This Afternoon

Hi site is free, and he has helped hundreds of newcomers start and make money online.

He also happens to be the nicest person you can meet! (I am not an affiliate or anything, just wanting to share a really good free resource).

Hey everyone, some advice I can give is also not to try to learn everything at once. You're not going to get everything right away so take the time to learn one thing and move on.

When I first started making money online, I had no idea where to start and I was so overwhelmed with everything. I tried many different things, and I can say from experience, don't do that. Just try to focus on one thing and once you do that well, move onto something else. Trust me, that's the way to go.

I agree - I was struggling a couple of months ago with my first website. I had my domain & hosting already setup. I had my ebook ready and I had some website video tuturials under my belt but...I was still missing some very basic stuff. It seems that no matter where I turned I found only half the answers.

Chris's free ebook was the key that unlocked everything for me!

Well, you are already one step ahead, because you are here in the forums. If you don't have a huge budget, forums are a nice place to start. Add relevent information and genuine comments and make sure
to set your signature file before you starting communicating in the fourms.

Make sure you fully read posts before you comment and enjoy yourself.

After you have spent some time here, venture to another form of marketing such as classified ads for instance, and get as comfortable as possible in that area and then once again move on to another area of marketing.

There is much information and many resources, so master one at a time. I hope this helps.

    All My Best,

Ahhh memories! I actually had heard about this forum years ago and came and checked it out. To be honest, it might as well have been Greek! I left and didn't come back until recently. A lot of it is realizing that this forum covers a lot of different topics, and it is not necessary for you to be knowledgeable in all of them. Just like you're taught to market to a niche, you also need to pick an IM niche and work that until you master it and then expand out. The other part to better understanding the forum is the lingo. Don't be afraid to ask what a term means! The people who post here aren't trying to be vague or confusing, they're trying to help, but sometimes forget that there was a time when they didn't know what IM, css, WP, plugins, cpanel, backlinks, etc. were.

Honestly, it can be like immersion learning a foreign language. Just wade through it, pipe in on a thread if you don't understand something, and before you know it you'll be posting your success story!

Take action, that is the best way to learn. Even if you have no idea what you're doing get a website up or some articles or video or however you decide to IM. If you keep at it everything will begin to click into place. And don't forget that you'll always be learning! Just be wise enough to sort through the knowledge and pick out what you're going to use today and what you're going to lock away for future reference.

Internet marketing is about aligning a product to a customer's needs. Therefore, to start, think of yourself as a "consumer" and what is these "consumer' thinking about.

Let's say you want to buy a nikon d90 camera and would like to see whether it's suitable for your needs. You will go google and type "nikon d90 review" and go to these review websites and find out more.

At these review websites, you will find out the features and benefits of the camera and if these meet your requirements, you will probably click on of the links there and redirect to the merchant's sites like amazon.com to buy the actual camera, especially if there's special discount or free shipping.

Then the owner of the review website receives a commission from amazon.com

Your aim as a internet marketer is to create websites which can help the customer to
make better buying decision and you are rewarded with a commission if the customer buys a product through your website

Diane, that is exactly the thread that I was going to direct the OPer to! Speaking from experience, half of the difficulty in orienting yourself in the IM world is solved by getting an overview of the different business models that are available. The thread that you've recommended does exactly that.

While I appreciate the humor in posting that thread, there is also the point that the market is flooded to a ridiculous point by now. Back in the day there wasn't hardly anyone. So while I'm grateful previous marketers were able to "blaze the trail" so to speak, we each face our own set of challenges.

SmartTeenager, are you referring to my post here? That one up there right above yours? If so, please understand I was not trying to be funny in any way. That post is probably one of the more helpful ones for newbies. Nothing humorous about information overload and feelings of being overwhelmed, and that thread addresses it succinctly.

My advice is to focus and to organize your day and week. Make a schedule. For example, develop a morning routine such as check emails and forums. Have a time limit for this! Next set aside a certain amount of time for learning materials. This can be reading, videos, e-courses, whatever. Again, set a specific block of time for these activities. Next, get some work done. Practice what you are learning. Take breaks, stay hydrated, (eat candy - that one works for me - lol) and don't give up! There will be good days and bad days. Keep going. Best of luck and success to you.

Naire, just FOCUS on a plan of action. The most important thing is to take ACTION. Look for a niche to start with, and then create a product or promote other people's products in that niche.

When you start seeing results (cash), then diversify. Anyway, welcome to this forum!

    To Your Success!

      Advice for newbies?

      * Don't reply to discussions by typing a short, one-line post. SERIOUSLY! So many newbies come here and post nothing useful. They post stuff like "Nice post" or "Thanks for the tip" or even some jibberish that makes no sense. Contribute to the conversation or don't post at all. When your posts are obviously intended to do nothing but boost your total post count, you're not endearing yourself to anyone.

      * Use the "search" feature at the top of the forum. Use it A LOT! Type in whatever phrase you're looking for and it will show you TONS of posts about that topic. Then start reading.

      * Yes, that's a lot of stuff to read. Get over it. That's the best way to learn.

    Don't worry...

All of us were newbie's at one time, simply know what you want.

The best way to overcome this is to select a niche/strategy and stick with it. The main recommendation I offer to the newbies I work with is to keep your focus and don't get tempted to jump from one thing to another.

    Thanks,

    Andy

There is a lot to internet marketing and when you're new, you are bombarded by somany programs, and coaching and products that are all good, and would all give you knowledge but may actually stunt your growth before you get started.

This is one of the main reasons I came up with the idea for Internet Marketer Magazine

the first issue is all about getting back to basics and gets down to the core information you need to start off marketing online in the right direction.

That what so many people need, is someone to steer them in the right direction.

To make money online, you need a webpage and a buy button. Without that you're not going to make a thing. From there, then you start expanding into the different ways of getting traffic to your site.

Being a beginner is overwhelming. One of the things I see we need in this industry is a source of information people can start from and grow from. That's another reason why IMM has been created.

I don't really mean to promote IMM, it's just that this issue is what you are all asking for in this thread. Back to Basics issue is free and will be released in June.
