Google has a lot of servers. They aren't always in sync with each other. You can be a PR3 on one and a PR4 on another. You can be 2nd position on one and 7th on another.

That is what is driving me crazy.

Until today I constantly have gotten in the neighborhood of 95,000,000 give or take.

Today it's been 95,000,000 all the way up to 299,000,000

All this is random and doesn't seem to be affected if I have my web history on or off or if I'm signed into google.

Til this very day the results have always been the same with just a little difference if I was signed into my google account.

I don't know what is going on with Google today.

Hi George,

If you want to see what the rest of the world sees in Google, simply use a proxy to view it. I ALWAYS use a proxy to see where my sites are situated, as I don't want the skewing that happens because of Google's "personalized search". This is a good proxy to use as you don't get inundated with pop ups and ads:

Thanks to Angela I just learned something very valuable.

To get a "true" picture of where I list on Google I make it a point to check at random on several computers all over town.

On this particular site I always see around 95,000,000 returns with me near the top.

With the results I've been getting today I don't even come up unless I use "" quotes.

Angela gave me a whole new way to check not only my site but all others.

Disappointing yes, Educational, Most certainly.

I just realized now that when we say or think. "I am on the front page of Google for my key words." Google might be just showing us what we want to see.

OK,

I just did the proxy thing again and this time it came up with only 100,000,000 and this provides the "ego" results I'm looking for.

I think the statement above, "Google has many servers" might just be the answer to this.

Hi Robert,

Basically, what this was all about, for me anyway, is when you type in your key words, the words you have your site optimized for it just feels good to be able to see your site on the top of google.

Case in point, internet marketing forum. When that phrase is typed into Google the Warrior Forum is always on top.

In addition to "feeling good" it can also make you some money if your site is monetized, i.e. set up to sell something.

I've had a site on top of Google for quite a while now for my keywords.

For the first time today I've noticed the results coming in erratically. On again off again and the results were always directly related to the returned results.

95,000,000 to 200,000,000 returned results I'm still on top. More than that I'm not.

Not only me but many others. Of course with quotes "" I'm still on top but who really ever puts quotes, unless they are trying to prove their site is at least indexed.

However just to show you the POWER of certain sites. Whether Internet Marketing Forum returns 95,000,000 or 900,000,000 the WF is still on top.

For little guys like me it's not the case.

Hmmm. I get Results 1 - 10 of about 255,000,000. But when I go to the proxy site Angela recommends, I get Results 1 - 10 of about 2,330,000,000. That's a huge difference. The top ten are almost the same, though. But this does make me wonder how accurate keyword tools are that show competition - such as Micro Niche Finder and Market Samurai, for instance.
