Selling Websites? What's Working?

Are people still making money building niche websites and then selling them? For example a while back I know people would build a site from scratch, put 10 or 20 unique niche articles on it and sell it for $199 or so. Is this still a viable method of making money?

Just wait for American Idol to start and buy the urls of the top 35 peoples names .....put some adsense on there and take all the clicks you can get and then when the top 10 or get decided you sell their websites to them.

    Hope That Helps.

That's a funny strategy, Jeff, and would probably work, lol.

We're still building and selling websites and document the process completely on our site. We've also allowed others to build and sell their sites with us, putting them through a vetting process to pre-qualify them and protect our buyers.

Thanks for all the replies. This is helpful. The American Idol one is interesting, that's a good idea.

How about a site that's not earning anything? For example if I were to build a site this week and then sell it.
