Article Writing Site Recommendations

Hi Warriors:

Hope all is well tonight.

Can you please give me some information on article writing sites.

Are there sites that you can recommend (if they exist) that don't limit the amount of articles you could write per day/week?

What sites have you found that are legit/pay on time/and there is enough work if you want it?

Another factor would be that if you write well the approval rate is high by their clients so there aren't games of a bunch of content ending up in their hands without compensation.

Thank you as always.

iWriter is a legit writing website. You don't have much work when you are a basic writer, but you can find more work when you achieve premium writer.

I'm fond of Writer's Domain (.net) - they do tend to run out of work but they put a hold on hiring when they need to. If you get on there at the beginning of the month you can make a $100 a day or more.

      Hi Dmcgaw:

Is the website you recommend Writers Domain Dot Net?

I am not familiar with them but appreciate the mention and will check out the site.

      Thank you.

I've written a lot for Hirewriters. You can write as much or as little as you want. They pay every Friday if you have over $10 in your account. I've always received my pay on time. No games.

    Another vote for iwriter :-)

I am rejecting 15% of them at the moment though :-(

      Hi Danny:

Thanks for information. A 15 percent rejection rate could worry a writer. Obviously you deserve quality but as a professional writer and published author I can tell you a big fear writers have is content being rejected but compiled. Then later being changed around a bit and they get nothing for the effort.

      Have a great night.

  • I'd HIGHLY recommend just putting your time & energy into getting private clients!

With private clients you'll get a lower reject/edit rate (mine is maybe 1%) and your only limitation on how much you can write is how many clients you can get (which isn't as hard as everyone seems to think).

Plus, you can typically write far fewer articles and still make much more (if you're a good writer).

      Hi Michael:

      Thanks for your post.

I certainly have the track record for writing- published author, public speaker, written liner notes for a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band (several in fact), and a writing and speaking course.

I do have to disagree with it being easy to get clients.

In fact I have never seen a Warrior Special Offer on writing that came close to addressing the getting clients part.

      Have a great night.

If you have a track-record as an established writer (which I assume), it's beyond me why you would even be remotely interested in iwriter (which pays, like what, $2 after fees for "non-premium")...and fiverr..or whatever other content mill out there?

If you're serious interested in making writing a job, start with
Jobs for Bloggers - ProBlogger Job Board
        and
FreelanceWriting.com's FREELANCE WRITING JOBS : FIND FREELANCE WRITING JOBS

where you can find real writing jobs rather than producing content for content mills. There are billions of sites and blogs out there and MOST of them need content, constantly. Some established blogs pay as much as $300 for well researched pieces. Obviously not all pay that much, but there is simply no reason to "recommend" an aspiring writer to go to iwriter or fiverr.

If you apply as a writer for real blogs...most of them do not have unlimited volume to write (even if
it would likely still make you more money as with fiverr or iwriter).....but as a freelancer you should also have more than one client. This is no problem since writing jobs are NOT scarce at all. Get three or so clients and you will make a good amount of money and have steady work.

There are literally tens of thousands of publications that will pay better than what you'll be getting on article writing sites.

As a published author and speaker I am sure that there will be many looking for someone of your background.

There are lots of resources on how to get high quality clients, both here and elsewhere.

The problem is, most people simply don't want to put in the work to find them. They would much prefer to work for $10 an hour for "guaranteed" work (until the article site gets shut down or your account is mysteriously banned) than to put in work to find clients that pay $50-$100 per hour and more.

There are thousands of freelance writers out there who also do very good business without even seeing an article writing site.

If you're serious about it, I guarantee that you will be able to find clients and make some decent money.

I agree with Michael. Having your own clients is the best way to go. But I think working on freelancing sites does help in terms of exposure to different clients and learning how to best deal with them, as well as helping you develop a good portfolio.

I am not a writer, but I do hire from Freelancer.com, and the ones that do good job, are kept with me for as long as they want to work.

      This ^^

Honestly, you are better off putting up a thread in the Warriors For Hire forum and working one on one with clients than going the content mill route. I started my online career by slogging it out in the content mill trenches - then I got hired by an actual client and it was night and day difference.

      That being said...

Of all the content mills, Constant Content is the best. Highest pay by far in my opinion. Though expect to only sell 70-80% of the articles you write.

As most people are saying, private clients pay the best, and are probably the best option. It does take some time to build up your client list, though.

In the meantime, I agree that Constant Content is a great way to go. The nice thing is that you can write about anything. You don't have to write specifically about what a client is requesting. (Although if you look at the standing requests you are more likely to sell your articles.) It is nice to have the freedom to write about what you love once in awhile, so doing Constant Content along side your private clients, or while you're building up your client list is a great idea. It is also nice that on that site you can set your own price.

Some people have suggested Fiverr, and while that can usually get some work for a writer, it doesn't pay enough. Based on the experience you have, you should be charging much more than is possible on Fiverr. With the exception of quick 100 word articles, working for four dollars is typically not worth it. The quality of the clients you work with is usually low, too. I found that the people hiring writers on Fiverr often don't know what they want, and they have trouble communicating in English. You end up spending more time messaging with the client, trying to figure out what they want than you do actually writing the article. That takes away from time you should be using to earn money.

I don't want to talk too negatively about Fiverr, since it is where I got a good jump start, but for someone with the amount of experience you have, look elsewhere.

In summary, Constant Content plus Private Clients.

        Good luck!

I agree that Constant Content is one of the best. They do have far higher standards than many of the different freelance writer sites but you can write quality rather than quantity. The clients on Constant Content are prepared to pay a premium for a well written article, which you would struggle to find on "content mills".

You should also consider looking into offline publications, where the pay is often far more substantial than anything you will ever find online. The offline magazine market is wide open for the freelance writer such as trade and association publications, special interest magazines, regional and national consumer publications, etc.

These editors in particular are always looking for writers who can consistently deliver well-researched and reader-targeted articles. A comprehensive listing can be found in Writers' Market, which includes editor contact information and publication-specific article submission guidelines.

ive used content in the past from an article writing site. it wasnt like iWriter, it was a business where they write, proofread and edit it all for you at once.

I was paying 6$ per 500 word articles. product reviews, seo articles, etc.

Hire Freelance Writers - Content Marketplace - WriterAccess is the only writer site I know of that is worthwhile (if you're a writer at least). If you can take the time to fill out a full profile and apply for "casting calls", the work is there.

I also agree with what was said above--private clients are much better! But as far as writing sites go, Writer Access actually treats writers with respect--a rarity among "content mill" sites. It also pays better than similar sites at the 4 and 5 star rating levels.

I would definitely suggest iwriter as the place to start out in article writing online.

The pay isn't good to start with and there is tough competition for winning articles but once you establish yourself as a literate human being, you can make some decent cash from the site.

A friend recommended WF as a great place to start a writing business. I heard there are plenty of IMers here who are looking for excellent writers, so I'm planning to open my own sales thread soon. I agree with the others here who said writing for a few clients directly pays better than writing for freelance sites. I wrote for iWriter a year ago but stopped writing for them when they started asking writers to pay to become Elite or Premium. oDesk and Freelancer.com does not seem like a healthy ground for writers anymore, what with non-compensated work and low rates.

A friend told me that when you start a sales thread in the Warriors for Hire section, and you actually turn out to be a great writer, you'll have more work than you can handle.

    Hope this helps.

I would also suggest running an ad here on WF. Then link to it in your signature. Don't try to match the low end prices. There are people on here who know the difference between an interesting, readable article and a piece of c*** and are willing to pay more.

Also, local business can be a good way to get higher paying jobs.

You might also want to consider publishing your own work on Kindle to start building some passive income.

I no longer recommend any article writing sites when I discovered how much more money I could make just publishing the articles on my own site.

Rules are getting stiffer and stiffer and dumber and dumber on these sites, and I just can't in good conscience recommend them because they don't have the writers' best interests in mind. They SUBJECTIVELY come up with reasons to screw you over time and time again.
