Hi guys, I have an awesome informational site on the electronic cigarette (e-cig) with a lot of good, helpful info, but I'm having trouble getting traffic.

facebook and google adwords will not allow me to advertise since the e-cig is considered a tobacco product (even though it's NOT).

What else can I do?

I make $$ through affiliate commissions on the e-cig supplies pages.

The only real idea I have is commenting on related articles and linking back to the site, but that's a lot of work for very little traffic.

The people I want to see my site are smokers who have even the tiniest interest in the e-cig. My site gives them ALL of the info they need in a simple way.

How can I get to them!?

(I started this same thread before but it was deleted because I linked to it. I think it's ok if you PM me and I send you the link if it helps.)

THANK YOU

What I quoted at the bottom of this post is helpful, although overwhelming. Thanks.

I guess I was looking for advice for an e-cig-specific site since you can't just promote "tobacco" products through a lot of the normal avenues. I wonder if anyone has some concise tips for me...

and I am doing SEO through the attached blog, but was looking for more short-term options. This is a long-term project for me.

Go and find non-rival sites about e-cigs. Advertise on these websites to get things going. In the meantime, consider joint ventures and solo ads. You will have to contact the owner of certain leading websites, and present your website/offer in a way that sounds beneficial to these e-cig site owners. Consider offline marketing too. Even consider writing a book about it and publishing it on Kindle, Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, etc.

    That's so ridiculous, isn't it?

    Here's how to avoid that.

    1. Launch a Facebook FAN page instead of advertising.
    2. Share your blog posts on your Fan page
    3. Join Facebook Groups that are about ecigarettes and quitting smoking, then share your blog posts in those groups, NOT blatant advertising, just valuable information about the technology of ecigs.
    4. Do YouTube videos like the ones that TheSmokenjoey does.

The ecig industry is pretty competitive (I know, I have a blog about it myself), but you can break through it eventually.

And invite others to submit guest posts to your blog so you can add a little variety.

I think if I did all of these things with more consistency, my blog would be a lot better off than it is. I just don't give mine the attention it needs.

Simply put the link in your Signature file and then head over to the Off Topic section here and start talking about ecigs! It's a pretty popular, and controversial topic!
