What's your opinion on having a pop up in the screen about 30 sec. after your on a site to capture email addresses?

Thanks -

I have a pop up that comes up 10 seconds after you enter the page. It outperformed the optin box on my side bar by about 60%.

This was not in the internet marketing niche. I would assume it would be similar but have not tried it.

    Hope it helps

If it's a review site, 15-20 sec works really well.

Just make sure that BEFORE the popup appears, the reader has already read through some content and understood the quality you have to offer. Thus, they'll be more receptive to actually subscribing.

I would suggest using exit pops. If you are sending people to a sales page or squeeze page then you shouldn't be interrupting the message with popups. Your page should be doing what it is supposed to do. Then if, and only if, they go to leave the page you present them with an exit offer to try and capture their email. This way you are not interrupting the user and only putting the popup infront of those who were going to leave the page anyway.

I agree! I personally hate pop-ups and they often make me want to leave the site. After the visitor is done reading and didn't use the opt-in box in the sidebar, you will be able to catch the email with an exit pop-up (of course if the visitor liked the article).

I would say 3 seconds Because the reader may leave before then.

I use pop-up for my site and it works great. Dont bother with the theory just set it up and see things for yourself.

Some hate it, some love it but no one can ignore with the fact that it helps to capture more leads than without it

I use a XYZ Popup Dialog Box plugin on my wordpress sites, and it can display after some seconds.

Thank you all for the awesome insight. I'll be implementing it later this week. My email capture is so low that it can't possible hurt.

I was also going to say the same, it's the best tactic to get the readers attention, give some time to reader to read some part of the content to increase his interest and then let the pop up appear.

I agree with the exit pop strategy as well.
