Payza Is No Longer Available To US - My Funds Frozen

I had set up a Payza account (formerly AlertPay) about 6 months ago because I had been dabbling in PTC sites like Neobux & ClixSense (I was thinking about starting my own PTC site), and also because I thought it might be a good option to have as a backup for PayPal.

I was really happy with the service too. It operated pretty much like PayPal, whereby you could collect payments, transfer money back and forth to a bank account, etc.

Well today I had a customer contact me and tell me that he tried to purchase a product I was promoting and was told when he got to the payment page that "This merchant is not able to accept payments through Payza at this time." Fearing my account had been suspended or shut down, I logged in.

This is what I was greeted with:

Important Update for U.S. Members

The U.S. Department of Justice has just released a URL and phone number for inquiries regarding your funds held with Obopay for your Payza account in the U.S.

Please go to the following URL: USDOJ: US Attorney's Office - District of Columbia for this information. A phone number has also been provided on that site where you may leave your name and contact information and your call will be returned by their staff within 3 business days. The URL above will continue to provide updated information on this situation and Payza will also continue to provide you with updates. For those unfamiliar with the situation, Ultralight FS (formerly Obopay), a licensed money transmitter in many U.S. states entered into an Agreement with Payza, whereby we acted as an Agent of Obopay. This Agreement allowed Obopay to facilitate the transmission of money in the U.S. on behalf of Payza’s members. Obopay rescinded the Agreement leaving our U.S. members without a means to access their money. It is only recently that we learned that Obopay’s funds, including the funds held for the benefit of you our members, were seized.

Payza is cooperating with all governmental agencies to resolve this situation as quickly as possible. Again, we will continue to keep you updated by posting any developments in your account, on the Payza Blog and on Payza’s official Facebook page.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused our members in the U.S. and around the world, and we greatly appreciate your cooperation as we work to resolve this issue.

Then as I went to proceed to my account, I got this message:

Payza Announcement to Customers

Due to circumstances beyond our control, Payza’s account platform is no longer accessible to members in the United States. Therefore, you cannot add, send or receive funds to or from your account.

Unfortunately, the third party relationship that enabled U.S. members to access their stored value account services was terminated. It is with great regret that we have had to withdraw from the U.S. market.

All withdrawal requests will remain pending until further notice. We are working diligently on resolving this matter and will update you immediately with any developments.

When I clicked the link Payza provided it took me to the US Dept. of Justice website. I guess this "Obopay" who was facilitating payments for US Payza members must be in some kind of hot water if they have had their funds seized.

The money in my account is now frozen and not available for withdrawal. Luckily I only had $4.76 in there anyway!

wow! I have not logged into my Payza account in a while - I barely use them - but it's good to have alternative payment accounts. I guess since I'm Canadian this won't affect me, but still it's alarming. It's an eye-opener for people who leave money in their online payment accounts. I never leave too much in any of my online payment processor accounts - just enough to pay for some online stuff - domains and hosting mostly.

I hope it gets rectified soon for US people - keep us posted.

I agree with your practice of never leaving too much money in any online account other than my own personal bank account. One never knows what can happen and as we all know, it's usually the "little guy" who ends up paying the price whenever there is fraud or any other problems with these accounts.

I only ended up losing $4.76, but I have an online marketing buddy who had been promoting a recurring payment product through there and has lost a significant amount of income every month. I also hope this is rectified and the money is returned so that people can at least access what they had in there.

Does anyone here know what is going on with the US Attorney and the frozen Payza funds??? I had $1870.00 frozen in November of 2013 and was told to call the US Attorney number for updates. Well....I have called many times over for the last year now, and there has not been a single update on the situation. I am surprised there has not been a BUNCH of posts on this forum about this, if all US Payza customers had their funds frozen.
    IT STINKS!!!

I tried to join Payza about a year ago. Found out they don't accept anyone from my home state. So I said **** em. Guess I got lucky.

Sucks to hear that so many people will be hit with this.

Payza should be responsible for any judicial interactions and not you.

Why the heck should they say call an attorney?

That's the problem with dealing with small companies, they are too unprofessional.

When they were receiving your funds was there the involvement of an attorney and it's not that they don't operate at all. It sucks..

They did not tell me to call an attorney. The US DOJ seized my Payza funds. That link to DOJ just gives the phone number I have been calling for months now and there are no updates there. It's pitiful. Payza gives no answers on this either other than telling me to contact the US DOJ.

yes there are still many companies or programs that are excepting Payza...I would not touch them with a ten foot pole ....no pun intended.....I used to feel secure when first using merchants and currencies back with egold and ebullion....but now you could not get me to fund one unless maybe STP and that is still a stretch for me. They always have issues of holding and clearing this and that on the sending end but when you send it right in...not one problem.....hmmmmmm

If anyone knows anything, let me know! Again, I am surprised there has not been a larger uproar over this in the US.

I used payza a lot when it was previously Alertpay. Did not use it much after it switched to Payza. Does anyone know what the problem was that caused them to have problems?

I received an email from them a couple of months ago saying they have found a new financial backer (or whoever handles their US transactions), and they are once again processing payments for US account holders.

As far as the money that people had frozen in there, the last I heard they were still trying to recover it but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon (if ever).

I think there was some scam involved with the company they were working with before. Don't quote me on any of this, I'm not that interested in it to go looking it all up, but I believe there were US Federal authorities that got involved too. I don't remember which ones. Anyhow, I think a lot of people who are into PTC (paid to click) sites use Payza.

I forget why I even opened the account a while back. I believe somebody had wanted to buy a solo from me but for some reason they wanted to use Payza and so I opened an account. It's actually not a bad payment processor feature-wise, but I don't think I would take the chance of building up any large amount of funds in there considering their history.
