Ideas for the financial space

Hi all, I would love to get some advice and ideas from you guys. Here is my situation: I'm a successful young financial professional (mid-20s, 80K salary) who can probably make a nice living climbing the corporate ladder, but I'm CONSTANTLY thinking about ways to run my own show / build my own business. I've thought of many ideas but got no where in any of them so far. I feel stuck.

I suppose my "expertise" is in the finance and investing field but I'm open to all sorts of ideas as long as the upside is compelling and I don't need to deploy a large amount of capital (since I'm fully expecting my first few ventures to fail). In your expert opinion doing business online, where do you see opportunity for someone like me?

Idea's I've considered:
* Kindle publishing / info products (no, I will NOT try to teach others how to make money on the internet)
* Try to build a paid investment news letter
* Maybe try to build up content and support it with adsense, but my experience is that the investment education space is highly competitive and traffic isn't that high

I would love to hear from people who have actual experience. Thanks!

This seems like your problem to me. You sound like you are less interested in making money and more about the being seen as a success (since you say 'climbing the corporate ladder' I assume you're fighting the feeling of blending in amongst crowd).

Unfortunately you can't be about anythingbut making money if you want to have a business that succeeds. That's because that is the definition of a success for a business - you make more money than you spend. Then you go on to say that you're expecting your first few ventures to fail - how do you possibly expect them not to if you've already given up on them? Why would you ever do anything that wasn't, as a matter of focus, bringing your business into the success level - making more money than it losses. You might as well just go on vacation if you're going to throw away your first attempts anyways.

The corporate ladder is the easier option because all you have to do is take the next step, and there is always a next step until you get to the top. Being in business means you have to build the next step before you can use it.

These are excellent ideas. All three! Actually you can use all three approaches combined.

The one thing that is missing: Just do it.

Well, maybe another ingredient is missing: somebody that can coach you to success.

Your financial career probably also involved some coaching or "hand holding" from a senior. You can study all you want but if you try to put things into practice you might get a bloody nose or two.

So, I suggest that you get yourself a coach and you should be able to build a decent income within the next 6 months or so.

You're probably better off climbing that corporate ladder and investing any spare cash in rental property.
