Ever try giving away something of real value?

Theres a guy on fb who has a huge following that he uses to sell his stuff, his name is Steve Reichart. To build up his following he offered people free entry to a drawing for real stuff in exchange for liking his page, liking the individual post, sharing the post and commenting on the post.

He gives away pretty awesome stuff so im sure he spends significant amounts of money, but couldnt this be used to build a list in the mmo niche too? Maybe by just doing a drawing for some traffic instead of a stupid ebook?

There are some pretty strict laws about giveaways such at that. I hope he has checked with a lawyer

I'm assuming that you're referring to sweepstake or lottery laws. I don't think simple online giveaways have to abide by the same rules. Internet marketers use this method all the time, even during webinars.

An ebook doesn't have to be stupid. Problem is that there are people that sell in the mmo niche that have no business selling in the mmo niche that use their $25 budget to buy the same PLR from '08 that everyone else has and have it hastily rewritten at a content mill.

While you spend time reading people's signatures on a forum someone else is working to make the money you could have made.

This is about the place to get legal advice, But you would need information about sweepstakes in you area. I am not a lawyer so my best advice would be to talk to one.

Free "drawings" giveaways to build leads have been around for a long
time but I don't know how responsive that list would be afterwards.
I guess whatever you are giving away has to be related to the niche
that you are building the list in.

If you say that you are having the drawing that day, and you show what the prize is, then those people who like the page that day can be entered in. You may find your self placing 18 entries or it could be 1800. You never know. Try it and see what happens. I know I'll be trying this out. Thanks for the read and the idea.

If its worth value.... real value... then you can trade a valid email for a value product... build your list.. sell later.

An eBook isn't stupid when it offers high-quality content that can't be found anywhere else on the web.

The only people who are stupid are the ones so lazy that they don't put effort, time, or value into their eBooks.

I once created a facebook app that basically did just that. The idea was to guess the correct answer, (or buy a clue by taking a survey) and it did work. With these types of things the more creativity you think with, the better.

I agree with TheRockstarWriter and JRJWrites. Ebooks can be of immense value. Just concentrate on one problem and give genuine solution for it in the ebook. If a person reads the book and was able to solve his problem then he will look at you as the go-to source. This is a good way of warming up your leads to become fans and then buyers.

Its working for steve Reichart in the wepons training and sales market, I was wondering if anyone has tried it in the typical mmo markets, weight loss, get laid etc...

I was thinking take the MLSP approach after getting them on the list: keep giving value with live trainings, sharing good articles etc... until I become their trusted expert and my deal becomes their next shiny object.

It would probably work in other markets. Maybe give away free test strips and tester for a diabetes list, free protein powder for muscle building, free fat burners for fat loss etc... haha maybe free boner pills or condoms for a how to get girls book!

It's all about perceived value and targeting the right prospects with the right freebie. If you know your leads well and what tickles their fancy, even a simple ebook can be a value add for both parties.

He is more likely just trying to build a large following to monetize it later.

There is a point where a facebook page (or any social media for that matter) becomes self perpetuating, and this is a good place to be!

He is more likely trying to get traffic on autopilot by running a contest to let his followers do the building as opposed to manually doing it himself.

I have used this same method for offline businesses I consult with and it gets great results if its executed correctly!
