making references to other sites/videos in my emails

Hey,

I've just started my first email list and I was wondering what your opinions are on putting links to other people's videos or sites that I find useful in my emails?(in addition to my own content of course )

Thanks!

You'll probably find that you can do this with no problems, as long as you make sure to mention they are simply videos or links that you recommend or want your list to see. I would be careful to claim any ownership that you don't have.

It's probably a good idea...helps to show your list you're about helping them, not just selling to them.

I would do that on my blog/website but, probably not in my emails. Your emails are your vehicle for promoting products.

If I wanted to refer to another site, I would send the recipient to a blog post on my own site with a link there. And, the link would open in a new window so the recipient is sure to stay on my site

I think it's always a good thing to give a shout out to somebody else who is working hard here on the internet.

If you are sending traffic to their work how can they not be happy with that?

This will also show your readers that you aren't trying to imprison them in your sales funnel and they will trust you more if you are talking about other things in other places.

You must also consider the benefits of creating relationships with other marketers in this way.

Why not send them an email to let them know you have mentioned them in your latest post or what not. They may read this and return the favor by mentioning you to their followers which ultimately is more traffic for you.

    Yes! Of course!

Is a very good idea! If you wish and you aren't sure about the effectivenes, post it in your blog as a new post and "protect" the video box.

You will get traffic and you will reduce the chances of the visitors click on the video and go to youtube.

    Have a nice day!

I think it's a good idea as well. Many big bloggers for example, post links or list resources to other sites. Readers love that kind of content.

Plus, when you give a link out to other sites, those site owners just might link back.

Definitely I do it all the time in my blog posts and emails. You want to provide value to your list and one way to do that is to link out to other people providing great and useful content.

It makes you seem less like a sales person always trying to plug his own stuff and more like someone who actually wants to help your audience.
