I run a site in the female/maternity vertical. The core feature is an ovulation calendar. Women input their menstrual cycle (yes, yes, I know) and it shows them their days of prime fertility, astrological sign of the potential child, and other information on how to get pregnant/avoid pregnancy.

There's also a bunch of articles about fertility, baby names, etc.

We get 250k uniques to the site a year, 2million+ paigeviews.

To access the calendar, users must sign up. We have a total of 300k active subscribers and have email addresses.

Adsense is peppered on the site, but performs poorly (~100-200 per month)

So far there has been NO communication with the email list. Obviously its very targeted- female, 91% english speaking, 25-40, pregnant/seeking to become pregnant .

open to JV/ideas on how to monetize.

  • I would suggest you learn how to build relationships with your list & start selling feminine products whether it be how to eBooks or Amazon stuff.
  • If you havnt ever emailed them before this may be a good time to start!

Remember nobody likes being hit with promos all day every day.

Give them something of value, and they will start looking out for you!

  • So many possibilities here...a good start might be paid versions of what you already have. There are tons of info-products about fertility, baby names, health for expectant mothers, first-time parents, etc. I would bet with some work you can locate good affiliate offers for physical fertility-related physical products.

How do you define "active" subscribers? Is that how many login to the calendar on a regular basis? If so, you're sitting on a potential goldmine.

And how long have you been building this list? If it's been a couple years, likely many of those women have had children by now...that opens up another world of possibilities. I get excited thinking of all the options.
  • It's just as easy to create an info product for pregnant women as it is for anything else. We have a whole package of pregnant-related plr ebooks that includes topics of motherhood and infertility, so it's a hot niche and evergreen. I don't see baby-making disappearing anytime soon.

    • Not with How fun baby making is anyways...

  • No communication with the list = No relationship

No matter, how targeted that list....if there is no communication/trust, then people simply will not buy (most will not). Build a relationship with these people, have them trust you. By doing this, it opens many possibilities for you....
  • I agree with the other posters here about how you need to email your list. Create about a month's worth of valuable content that encourages them to open your emails on a regular basis.

Then after a month, add 10% promotional value to the information you send over to your clients. What you promote is up to you, and your research on what your viewers are interested in, based on your site. Maybe a survey of what readers want from you in the future will give you the answers you need.

If you have further questions, feel free to PM me.
  • Start training your list, then start selling to it. Encourage community and interaction, you can actually have the list sell to itself on your behalf.
  • It sounds like you have a goldmine on your hands!
  • Banned
Christmas is coming. Offer a free (but, high quality) product to your list and build up trust. Once that happens, you can start promoting paid stuff and your conversion rates would be high.

  • Your email list is (almost) worthless. At least the ones that are older than 6 months are completely worthless.

What you should do from now on:

    Send them something. Anything.

The value of an email list increases when they receive email.
