    Hey Resala

If you are getting a 5-10% open rate that is actually excellent. In other words you are getting 5,000 to 10,000 opens per mailing?

If that is so, it is phenomenal.

I also recently purchased a 100k list and I battle to get 300 people to open.

What autoresponder are you using? Are you self hosting your list?

    Regards
    James Molfetas

Do you already have a list to market to? That's obviously the first step.

Conversions vary depending on the niche. In your niche (considering its going to cost your clients a good amount of money), even a 1% conversion rate could be lucrative.

But, you can always increase conversions by building trust first. That's the key to successful e-mail marketing.

If people trust you and get immense value from a $1 product, you can easily make them pay for a $1000 product later. So, build trust first.

      Good Luck.

The conversion rate is determined by 2 factors, 1) are the people on your list looking for what you are selling (targeting). 2) How good is your relationship with this list, how important are your emails to them.

Personally, I am going a bit rogue. I am right now building a list in the IM niche, so for people who join my list, I will be sending them every 2 to 3 days either something about being in business or personal development. Plus a bonus video for joining.

If you have worked a J.O.B. all your life, you are probably expecting your online business to pay you just like your job you put in an hour and you get paid for an hour. My hope is my short emails will open their awareness and help move them forward, from employee to business owner and then I include offers that would be helpful.

You actually have a good hit rate. But, you can increase that with some modifications in your subject lines maybe?

It's going to take some testing before you start hitting magic numbers. The quality of the leads is also important. What percentage of that 5-10% is converting for your offers?

If your conversion rate is the same as your open rate, you ARE the luckiest man on earth!

Do a lot of testing, write compelling content, weed out the chaff, add new members and you'd soon see better open rates.
    Good Luck.

That is certainly a good rate. For conversions, make sure that the content is compelling and written in perfect English.

If you are trying to get people to sign up to something, try and offer a freebie to add to the incentive.

Opens are not sales and conversions. When you'd like to increase your conversions, you have to build a relationship with your subscribers. That's where you offer some good quality content and not only sales pitches.

You need to segment your list and create smaller sub-lists. That way you send only relevant content for those sub-lists, which increase your open rate, decrease unsubscribes and get you better conversion rate overall.

      Good luck :-)

Just keep at, continue to create good value and in time you'll warm your list up. The more you write the better you become. It's important to showcase your personality and for your list to get to know you better.

If that is so, it is phenomenal.
If I could only get 10% of my loyal fans to open my emails I'd be devastated. And I don't care if some guru says 9% or some other number is normal.

The 'secret' to getting a lot of people to open your emails is to make sure the right people end up on your list.

Not just anyone and everyone you can bribe to jump on with some hyped up freebie but the people who actually want to be on it and are crying out for you to send them epic emails with more of the same that you're already giving them on your site / via your products / whatever.

When you give them so much value up front that they willingly sign up without any sort of bribe or freebie (or at least that the freebie is secondary) then you'll see your email open and click rates soar.

You can mess about with headlines, sneaky ways to make them click and other bits and pieces to increase it by a few percent here and there (and it's worth doing) but essentially you need to find a way to get people to WANT to opt in and get emails from you.

A site full of epic content or a content funnel that shows people upfront the value you can provide and eliminate those YOU don't want on your list works best.

To the OP if you purchased these emails (I'm not sure if that's what you are saying or not) then this is why you have a low open rate. People don't know who you are or why they are getting emails most likely.

The person who sold them probably sold them for a reason as they were junk or he'd abused them too much and couldn't get them to open either.

Probably about as good as it's going to get now. No amount of trickery, headline polishing or other techniques is likely to improve this by much more than a couple percent.

Can you please be a little bit clear when you ask a question - use something OTHER than shorthand in the future, so that we can understand? Thank you.

From what I can deduce, you bought e-mails. Is that correct?

If so, it was a stupid decision. Those people didn't sign up to your list. They're likely to report your e-mails as spam.

Build your list organically. Build trust with your list.

    Trust = money.

    Hi,

Always try to SHARE your experiences with your readers your opinions.

Give them what you know first within your emails.

Remember that they signed up to your list because they want to hear from you.

So always start your emails off by giving first then you can add your
links in there too and make more sales.

    All the best
    Gavin

I have used somewhat tricky words in the title to get a better open rate such as "Your Account Status"
    Or "Your Order"
Then when they see these headlines, the subscribers usually think it is important. But I stopped doing that so much as I feel it is a bit misleading.

Heres an idea instead of have 100,000 untargeted email shots. Have a specific demograph, and target them. You might find it more profitable to have 5,000 targeted email prospects then 100,000 untargeted

So I'm guessing you bought an email list which has probally been sold to many and most of them have stopped using that email due to being hammered with spam

Build this list yourself, save your money buying lists and setup your own squeeze page so you can collect more active emails and people who are actually interested in your niche..

5 to 10 % open rate is a an excellent open rate. Filtering of your list is one thing you have to do continuously, to improve open rate you have to have a catchy subject line...and ensure your mail do not get delivered in junk folder....

Low open rate points to quality of email title. If you want to improve open rate, you have to be creative with email titles. More personal, more friendly, more unique.
Low CTR (click through rate - clicks on link inside your email) points to email body, which is not engaging enough.
5-10% open rate is phenomenal for used and abused list you bought from someone.
Start building your own list and don't be to salesy. Focus on delivering value and only 10-20% of your emails should be sales pitch. Otherwise you will burn your list very fast
