Why Are You Giving It Away Free?

4 replies
There is a perception online that says you should give away your content for free.

Does this actually work?

People that receive content for free put a 'low priority' on the content and
most likely - Don't even read it.

Shouldn't you be charging for your hard earned information?

Don't cut yourself short by providing free information you have worked hard for.

If you think getting someone's email address in exchange for 'free information' is valuable,
then obviously the remainder of your content online is of poor quality as you need to;

'email them to remind them of who you are'

rather than;

'they are returning to YOUR SITE of their own accord to buy your product'

or to read your next updated information.

There is so much free information given away by people and I am sure they are still not making any money because they are giving it away free.

Any response to this?

    I don't people ever give out their main methods of income, but there always a number of reasons to help others. Building relationships with future peers is always handy; ask any marketing guru who asks friends for their lists. People also post methods on forums like this for recognition, which can be very helpful if they ever release a product. Lots of different reasons.

    Well I read everything I take the time to download and I give the same attention as I something I would pay for.

    Also, I "give away" my music - but not really because if it is used my license says I get a link back. Getting a real link is expensive or time consuming. I also get the email sign-up. I know lots of people do use and value my music, even though it is free, because many take the time to write me and tell me so.

    There are ALLOT of people out there - like teenagers for example - that do not even have a credit card. However, marketing CPA offers that do not require credit cards works great to promote via list.

    I also sell an eBook that I would never, ever give away free. That is because of what you say - I value the information personally and I don't want to give it to just anyone.

    Easy Cash,

    I like the question you raised...

    However, I disagree with you (respectfully).

    Here's why.

    The recent trend seen with product launches (mega launches) have been moving the free line of information to more sophisticated level of knowledge.

    I am talking anything from our fellow Warrior Kevin Riley's Manifesto 2011 videos to StomperNet, Frank Kern, Eban Pagen's videos etc.

    In the past, people could have rightfully charged for these information (and they still could) and they're far from the "free = poor" information.

    After all, people will think "if their FREE information is this good, how good their PAID information should be?".

    Then their "$2000 a pop" courses sell out in 2 days.

    Nothing short of remarkable -- all because these people work hard at giving free information upfront.

    I believe these people are able to do so as their products are rock solid and they believe once they set a lower barrier to view their products, they can get the paying customers to continue buying more of their products. Often, the products make people feel good by giving them lots of knowledge. However, often times, one must perform the actions required to use the knowledge learnt.

    Moreover, they upsell a lot of their products after offering their products for free in the next page. So they get you to buy more and more....
