Is it wise to place emphasis on the number of pages an ebook contains ?

My main concern would be the subject of the ebook and the value it would be to me.

I don't usually pay more than US $99.00 for an ebook . . . but it needs to have valuable content . . . 20 pages, 40 pages, or 100 pages.

Pages is not the best way to judge a book. I have seen fonts that are 10 point right up to 18 point in books. The bigger the font, the less words to get those 20 pages.
I always work in the number of words when I write a book for someone.

Why is your book better than others out there? You need to think about that before the cost. Also, would you rather sell more for less money and get your name out there?

The length of the book doesn't really matter, as long as it contains value and can convey the message. If it takes longer to convey the message, then naturally it will have more pages.

I like short and to the point. If you dump a ton of fluff in there it can easily be 100+ pages. Honestly I don't have time to read that, nor do I want to. I like in-your-face, to the point, and actionable steps.

If I gave you a scrap of toilet paper with a few numbers on it, would you give me $100,000?

      I doubt it.

If I told you that scrap of toilet paper are the GUARANTEED winning numbers for the next lottery draw and the jackpot is $5,000,000...

      Would you pay me?

      Too right you would!

The number of pages is irrelevant.

It's the quality of the information that counts.

Helpful stuff here guys. Create value to receive value. Length does play some factor; nobody is paying $50 for a 5 page eBook, unless genius permeates each page, but it comes down to the value you shared and how much your target market values the content.

    Thanks!

Not necessarily true. I have a formula that produces large sums
of money in my business. I could write the entire thing... including
the how to... in about three paragraphs on a single sheet of paper
and only a fool would refuse to pay me upwards of $20,000 for the
      information.

It depends on how convincing you are. I have paid more than $40 for ebooks I felt were good, and on the other hand I wouldn't pay a cent for some of the stuff out there. So it depends.

Usually, I pay $60 for 20K fiction book. For nonfiction book, it's lower than that.

I would honestly say that I wouldn't pay anything for it.

I may be in the minority here but I try not to spend time reading ebooks about things and instead use that time to actually do stuff.

Ebooks can be useful and all but I try not to get caught up in it all.

It absolutely depends on the subject and if it strikes a note with you. You don't know how good or bad the e book is until you purchase it and read it. So, if it has a money back guarantee, you're good to go. It's good to remember that you're investing in your business. It's important to gather knowledge from all venues.

There many people that pay you thousands of dollars per year for reports on critical data pertaining to their industry.

So it's not the size of the report or PDF that matters, it's the quality of content and how useful it is in that industry.

I would easily pay $1000 for a two page report if it would show me something that could do to make me $2000, who wouldn't?

I paid $5 for a 200 pages ebook that was completely useless and full of BS material, and the other day I paid $47 for a 3 pages report that was absolutely mind blowing.

Number of pages is not a factor to measure the quality of a digital product. I paid those $47 because it was exactly the kind of info that I was looking for at that moment.

It's a matter of how much you value your work and how firmly you believe that your ebook will help other people (if your book fits to the premise "find a need, fill a need").

Test your market, think about how much your "avatar customer" will be willing to pay for your info.

Now if you want that ebook to bribe your prospects to sign up onto your list, then remember the perceive value, the higher the price for what your giving away the higher the response.

Do a quick search on Amazon for kindle's ebooks on your niche and see how much the authors are charging and price your book accordingly.

I think you find most customers would pay close to $0. I give away a 30page book to build my list and it works well for that purpose.

    Hey guys,

I think some of you are missing the point of the question. Unless I'm mistaken (and that's certainly a possibility) OP is asking how much HE should pay to have the book written FOR him. He then intends to give the book away as squeeze page bait.

To answer the question I think OP is asking... it depends on several factors.

    1. How much expertise is required to write the book? The more specialized the topic the more you'll have to pay (generally speaking) because you'll have to get someone who's a "real expert". If the writer had to spend a lot of time and money on school to learn the topic they'll (rightfully) charge more.

    2. How much work do they have to do? Are you just telling them " I want a 20 page ebook about XXX" and it's on them to do all the research, structure the content in a digestible format etc.. or are you giving them a well thought out and detailed outline of the book you want to be written, along with a list of resources they can use, and all they have to do is fill in the blanks? Obviously the more work/time they have to put into the project the more they'll charge.

    3. How busy is the writer? There are only 24 hours in the day, no matter how you slice it. So if the writer has more work than they can handle they'll be in a position to pick and choose the projects they want. Obviously they'll pick the ones that pay them the most, and the more "in demand" they are the more they tend to charge.

    3. Where in the world are they located? If they live in a country with a low cost of living they can afford to compete on price and still make a living. As a general rule US, British, and Canadian writers tend to charge more.

There are a few other factors, but I just want to illustrate that the cost of any ghostwritten project is highly variable and it's difficult to give a hard and fast rule of "don't pay more than $XX for XX pages".

The best advice I can give is this... post the project and see who bids on it and what they want to charge. Then if you can tolerate the price and you like the writer, go for it and see what happens.

Now, having said all that I'll tell you that unless the content is super specialized and I need a PhD to write it or something I wouldn't really be looking to spend more than around $60-100 or so. But again that number is highly variable and I do everything I can to minimize the amount of work they have to do.

    That help any?

    Tony.

As all others already mentioned , the number of pages wouldn't really matter ,only the actual content

I wouldn't mention the number of pages at all, you run the risk of scaring off half of your buyers right out of the gate. People have their own personal "value threshold" - some of the best strategies and information I've ever read was nicely summed up in 10-15 pages, but if you were to say "10 page book" many people will think there is no possible way they will find value in a mere 10 pages. On the other hand, attention spans are short and some people don't want to read 100 pages of fluff to get to a point you could make in 5 or ten.

So don't worry about the number of pages and just focus on what the user will get out of your content. If you aren't sure where to price your book, go on JVZoo or Clickbank and search for info products that sold on the subject. Look at the price and the number of sales and find the balance that's right for your niche.

I'm not willing to pay anything for a 20 page ebook.

I am, however, willing to pay thousands of dollars for ideas
and training on how to solve specific problems that will result
in large sums of money being deposited in my bank account.

That could be 20 pages... it could be 200 pages... it coud be 2 pages.

    See the point?

Most 20-page ebooks i find suck. Just being honest. I did find an autoblog course in the deep past that was around 7 pages long that was really good. Just fill it up with great content. For your benefit, don't mention on your squeeze page how many pages it is. Instead, lead with alot of bullet points that show prospects what they will learn. THIS is what they're subscribing for.

If a 1 page ebook contained an extremely valuable secret that's guaranteed to work every single time, whether it be IM, losing weight, how to get the girl, etc, I'd be glad to pay triple digits for it.

    Hi,

If it's really high quality information that can shortcut you through all
the rubbish of trial and error learning then the amount of pages really
    doesn't concern me at all.

If that e-book was going to show me how to make $100 a day for
example then I'd gladly pay $1000 for it.

I could make my money back in no time and be in profit if that e-book
gave me everything I needed to know.

I look at things as an investment and quality information and training
is always money and time well spent.

    Have a good one.

I actually consider myself to be one of the best writers I've yet to encounter on the planet.

So naturally, I write my own material.

(Is my self-appraisal lofty? Perhaps; but my advice is to value your own propensity and think of yourself as the best of the best).

    Just my $.02...

It's not the length of the book that counts; it's the value you can deliver. For example, if you produced a 1 page book that contained information that would (once implemented) be guaranteed to make me an extra $1000 per month, I would willingly pay you $3000.

If the information in a twenty page electronic book is extremely valuable to me then I am willing to pay up to about $9.95. It is unlikely information will be this valuable and I will likely be willing to pay about $3.95 if the information is significantly good and about $1.95 if the information is of average quality. If the information is not useful to me or of quality then I will not be willing to pay anything for it.

The price of an ebook, like most other things, is directly related to the quality of the marketing of that book. Especially the first product that a customer buys from you. They have nothing on which t judge how good your product is except the marcomm.

Reviews don't mean so much anymore, but the quality of the original marketing make a huge difference in what people are willing to pay.

Difficulty of the topic, quality of the ebook, etc. If you require ebook with original photos than I think you should pay more.

for me pages doesn't matter. You can write a technique even in 1 pages which cn be of $100 value and you can write 200 pages for a $2 technique too!

So stick with your quality and you will get better conversion rate!
