How do you see if my headline is working? (email)

Hey all, I just joined. I started lurking at the beginning of this week after taking interest in internet marketing. I just finished reading a 20 chapter ebook called Internet Marketing For Smart People. I think I have somewhat of a clue about copywriting and some about SEO.

I'm not 100% sure if this is the section to ask this in, but:

How do I see if my email headline is working? Is there a way to check to see if my email is getting opened?

Sure there is, but more important than just knowing how many are being opened is knowing how many people click through from a link within your email and view your offer.

You do this by using a URL tracking link - it records each clickthrough to view your offer etc and where the click came from (by recording the IP address of the person who clicked).

I have access to a short duration special offer on a marketing suite that includes tracking (very inexpensive at the moment!). Pm me if you want details.

Some technical details (1x1 HMTL image pixel or something of the sort) renders your autoresponder e-mail rates WRONG. As mentioned above, the best way to do it is by tracking your links.

I would suggest using Pretty Link Lite (WP Plugin) to cloak and track your links. Nifty tool, great analytics, creates awesome links.

If you haven't already bought an AR, then go for one of the biggies. AWeber, GetResponse, Constant Contact - something that has a proven track record.

Popular autoresponder like GetResponse and Aweber do provide report for open and click thru rate.

Most autoresponders allow you to see how many opens you got, another way is put an invisible pixel. None of the methods mentioned shows 100 % accurate stats though, because some people have disabled html in their emails.

Best way is to rely on how many clicks you got for the offer you are trying to promote, ultimately this is what matters the most, and you can track that pretty accurately too.

You should do more than just check opens. Most ARs offer A/B split testing. All this means is you can split (segment) lists and use those segments to test everything from copy to design to subject lines. Most will have tutorials showing you just how to do this. It's not rocket science and it's crucial to fine tuning your campaigns for better results.

You can see which elements worked best from the results and you should be testing every element.
