Which is the best--Ebay or Amazon?

If you were starting today, which e-commerce platform, E-Bay or Amazon, would you use to promote your products?

Take a look at it from a time, financial investment, energy, and stress standpoint.

I'd like to hear from folks that are doing both and why, too?

It depends what you're products are.

Most of the time both are very profitable, you just have to refocus your marketing efforts. Sort of like an argument about television vs radio advertising - one isn't better than the other, they just have different demographic makeups and require refined approaches.

I would vote for amazon too.
      Why?

1.First, though both amazon and ebay have built trust for themselves, I still think amazon's trust ranks higher than that of ebay and when people buy products on amazon, they usually expect them to be of good quality. Complaints and returns are fewer.

      2. If you can make use of Fulfilment by amazon (FBA) and offer free shipping, you could make more sales on amazon than on ebay.
      3. Competition: Fewer people are aware of the fact that you can use amazon to sell your products. whereas every Tom, dick and harry knows they can sell their products on ebay, which makes competition high.

      4. Traffic. Amazon is #5th most visited site in America, and 10th world wide while Ebay is #6 in the USA and #21 world wide, you would get more prospects listing on amazon than on ebay.

      5. Amazon has worked hard to optmise it's buying process.

NOTE: But, it would serve you better if you can use both platforms to sell your products. This would give you increased sales and profits

Wow! Thanks for your advice...Hey don't you have to pay $.99 for each listing you set up at E-Bay. We don't have to pay on Amazon until someone buys..You can start for free before you should upgrade to the professional level. Great for newbies! They can test out the waters.

Time is money for me..single mom, homeschooling my kids! FBA has been very good time!
I.E. Got a Game on E-bay for $10 sold the same game on Amazon for $40.

      No customers, no hassle....done!

I am trying to keep an open-mind because I have never done E-Bay...the more I think about it. If I had to choose, it would be Amazon....

Can you send me the blog post link so I can check it out. I have only had great experience with Amazon...I am a little bit apprehensive about trying E-Bay.

For selling my own physical products I get much better results on Ebay.

But if you were looking at affiliate commissions, Ebay has changed quite a bit recently, so I can send lots of good quality traffic and not earn a penny, whereas you used to get paid per click.

Amazon is my preferred route for affiliate commissions as you can end up getting paid a % of whatever the buyer spends, even if it wasn't what you sent them to Amazon for in the first place.

What products would you be selling?

I've done very well with Physical products as oppose to Amazon Affiliate because of my Techi-issues..making some good money with Affiliate with Amazon...I tried nothing E-Bay and it seem from the feedback that E-Bay needs to be put on the back burner for now!

Moreover, I find that I have to put up a lot of upfront money with Amazon Affiliate before I see a return for my investment...Whereas with FBA, I made money the first week and I did not invest a time yet....Love it....it has paid for itself from the very beginning...!!!

What type of physical products are you selling...like Amazon does not allow folks to sell Big TVs because of the scams. I can not sell some items there that I could sell on E-Bay.

Thanks Johny...I am thinking about expanding for the New Year! Quick money seem to work well Amazon...I made money the first week...when does E-Bay pay you from a sell or does it go instantly to your paypal acct. We get paid bi-weekly and funds directly deposited into our acct.

Does E-Bay have a lending program like Amazon...that helps you buy more inventory???

I prefer Amazon and I have earned from it as an affiliate too. Why I prefer Amazon over Ebay because there are many complaints from users of being scammed on Ebay by buyers.
There are thousands of sellers on Ebay as well as Amazon but Amazon looks a bit more trustworthy.

I agree!! It seems to have more class...I personally experienced a psycho seller that did not make my personal buying experience well via E-Bay. But I have found some great deal and products on E-Bay...but I personally trust Amazon...but E-Bay does have its good points.

I have used both formats and have better average returns on Amazon. I have sold products in a nich that Amazon sends the sales my way. Also I promote a review site as a side hobby.

E-bay I have sold stuff and have done both good and bad. Sold automotive products and purchase other products it depends how much time you want to put in. You can also loose profits on e-bay quickly if you do not know what you are doing. I would check out this thread by ADE he has a lot of dealings with ebay... http://www.warriorforum.com/building...marketing.html

If you are talking about selling your own products, then go for Amazon as they have a built in community of users. These users will check out your listings, buy products and then leave extensive feedback and reviews. Although some Ebay users will leave feedback, it's not as helpful as the reviews left on Amazon. For your long term success, Amazon is the right platform to sell your products.

eBay is a buyers market........good place to purchased things at low cost and that is what the buyers there expect..low prices. I sold on eBay for years and was a silver powerseller but I knew what I was going to get for my products was going to be rock bottom prices.

Amazon is a more reliable place to up your sales in price of your product.

I kill it with ebay compared to Amazon.

eBay can be leveraged in a way that Amazon can't. I have built a list of over 11,000 BUYERS using eBay on complete auto pilot using eBay and a sneaky (but completely legal) little backdoor workaround.

    Can't do that with Amazon.

Now I have a list that I can monetize in any way I choose.

So eBay wins hands down for me.

but I check their payment on check is not ..you are preferring direct deposit right

cheques payment take 60 days , than when it reach your country depend your postal service etc..

well no choice , since is troublesome to set up account ..for direct deposit.

sorry one question I feel a bit confuse about the widgets...

i noticed when click the "buy from amazon.com" button , the url got stated your affiliate id ..

but if I am a buyers and go to search other stuffs on the page..click go another section or products..or go back to amazon home page , as there is a link below the buy button

I noticed didn't show my affiliate id...

is it still there ? but in different code?

as long the buyer still surfing on your affiliate page , is still under your affiliate code?

sorry hope you all know what I mean here.

Yes, I agree, but I must admit that coming this FEB. there are increasing their fees..I paya stock fee plus all other fees..even so, I had a brick and mortar and it was so much more...I am not complaining....it is soooo much more cost effective and doable as a work-at-home mom.....!!!

I could not do this biz the traditional way...my only challenge is that my compo is Amazon and they win every time...I can not be their price...so, I am creative to make sure I don't get caught up in their "matrix":p

I prefer Amazon. However, if you're already using FBA (great decision!) you could consider listing all your items on Ebay and using multi-channel fulfillment. You'd never have to touch the items. This is what I use ebay for. I fulfill both Amazon and Ebay items through my FBA inventory. It works great and it's a very "hands off" business model!

Amazon FBA (fulfillment by Amazon) is particularly useful for selling on Amazon.com if you live outside of the U.S. (or if you live within the U.S. and you simply don't want to handle the physical shipping of products yourself- I never see 99% of my inventory these days)

    I like them both.

eBay has it's Pros and Cons but on the plus side with eBay you gain access to your funds instantly once you have established your seller account. There is considerable traffic on eBay but the competition is for higher then that of Amazon.

With Amazon you have great features as well, in my opinion the competition for on Amazon is lower due to the stringent requirements of becoming a seller. Amazon has more traffic the eBay so if you made me choose one over the other I think I would go with Amazon as the best place.

    Just my 2 cents.

A friend of mine makes great money on Ebay, but his product focus is completely different from mine (I sell all brand new products). He visits storage auctions, garage sales, thrift stores etc and has an eye for valuable antiques (HUGE on Ebay). He makes a full time living doing this. I've never done well with used/collectible stuff, but obviously there is a huge market for it! For brand new items- Amazon is great!

on ebay, you will only find buyers who want it for free ( you will take a loss ). yes, there are niches, antiques but for online arbitrage have to go with AZ. very discouraged with eb. my last seller said I deceived her becuz she could have gotten it for lower elsewhere ( gave her a refund as it did not ship ).

There are less restrictions for selling on eBay but it's a big mash up of products now. Amazon is somewhat similar but possibly better credibility or trust factor than eBay, which is more like a big flea market.
