100,000 confirmed email addresses. Now what?

Hey guys,

I have a list of 100k confirmed email addresses acquired over time from various businesses that i have run. I am trying to figure out the best way to monetize / automate a process to maximize revenue.

I also have an information product site that's been running for about 3 years now and it generates about approx $200-300 a month without any advertising. I'd like to stay away from this model as it is generally best to cater to a specific niche.

Email addresses come from software, fashion and gadget sites. Age demo is 18-40

Any advice?

When was the last time they were emailed? Email lists die over time. Email marketing is something you need to do from the moment you get their email address as each day that pasts, they forget about you more and more.

Have a think about a niche, and content, offers you can provide and work on warming the list up again. I find just being honest about what you are working on and just being human in stead of salesy is the best approach.

Whatever you do, be careful and go slow if you haven't emailed any of them in more than a month or so. If you try a mass email to them all - especially if you promote something paid - you'll likely have a firestorm of spam complaints raining down on you and your ISP or AR provider (who will likely kick you to the curb post haste).

I would segment the list into small batches (1,000 each or so) and email a kind of introductory message or, better yet, give them something as a freebie. That will definitely cut the complaints way down.

You have AR options, but I know if you use Constant Contact they let you add addresses manually without forcing the recipients to confirm. Just be very careful and go slow!

    Good luck,
    John

If these were past customers of yours, (although you don't say how current your list is), you might want to start, slowly (few hundred at at time), sending them out an email to thank them for being a loyal customer in the past and you look forward to continuing the relationship. This will be an icebreaker, especially if you haven't emailed in a while.

I wouldn't know what to do based on the information you gave us. When was the last time you emailed these subscribers? If it has been awhile since you emailed them I would create some sort of re-engagement campaign. Let them know why you haven't emailed them in awhile (vacation, death in the family, etc). Then tell them what they can expect from you going forward. Some won't remember who you are, that's okay, some will.
