If this the case, then Amazon have no choice other than adapting the new legislation...unless they want to lose many and many associates.

Why bother about that program, you get only 5 to 75 in commissions. So if you sell something worth $100, you will get $7 – it is a joke.

Forget about them – there are many other programs paying bigger commissions.

Your just not making any sense at all, which is leading me to believe you have probably never even tried the program, or you tried and failed miserably.

With amazon your commission goes up with volume. People trust amazon more then any other ecomerce site on the net, which means very high conversion rates. You also get commissions on any product bought through your links, which often leads to multi item orders.

You may make a bigger comision with other programs, but chances are its going to be way more difficult to get conversions.

  You said Amazon is a waste of time because of the low commission rate.
  
  If you look at my screenshot you will see my conversion rate this month is 20%. That is the key. With a 20% conversion rate and 8% on a $200 product I will kick the pants out of most of your Aff programs which pays higher commissions but might have a 1-2% conversion rate.

This is a pretty simplistic outlook.

There are many positives that go way beyond just the size of the commission. For example, their internal interface has had tens of thousands invested into research and development in order to ensure multiple purchases from single customers. That is just the beginning....

For the smart affiliate, Amazon can be a great complementary avenue for profitability.

True, I am a simple person. I look at things very simply.

Time is money. If I can make more money from my time than getting just a lousy 5% - that too from low ticket sales - and NOT waste my time dreaming of getting high ticket sales...

I'd rather spend my time... doing something that gets me more money.

As I said, I am a simple man...I'd rather spend my time making more money.

yeah, I hear a lot of strong, matter-of-fact type of statements like this about various different methods and traffic sources.

They always seem to come from someone who couldn't make said methods work for them.

Usually they didn't even give it an honest effort, which is common I suppose. They form opinions about something just from hear-say or because it has small commissions.

Yet, I hear about people all the time making big money from amazon.

One thing that's great about amazon, is once you drive traffic there, they do all the selling for you. That's what they're great at.

Do you realize what that does for the affiliate? It saves him TIME.

You see, time is important, I don't know if you realize that. When you save time because you have to do less selling, you can spend more time driving traffic.

That's just my thoughts on why Amazon is actually a viable method.

But what do I know, I can't even promote amazon in my state!

Affiliates need Amazon more than Amazon needs affiliates. They've shut down affiliates in a number of states already, and seem prepared to do as many more as is required.

Affiliates are a big help when no one knows about you. Amazon doesn't exactly have that problem at this point.

Can Amazon survive without affiliates? Probably. But I'm guessing they get a lot of traffic/business through affiliate links because of reviews, recommendations, and links from sites with targeted traffic.

If too many states pass these laws, Amazon will have to seriously reconsider their strategy.

That said, there are a lot of legal challenges in the states that pass these tax
laws. Here in Illinois, the state supreme court struck down the law and Amazon reinstated all of us.

SkeeterMcgee, You may also consider SELLING real products on Amazon. For many of my products, I send buyers to the pages (with an affiliate link) so I end up making the 4-7% PLUS an average of 40-50% of the sale! Since your state restricts the affiliate portion of it, you may be out of luck on that side, but you can still sell products on Amazon for the 40-50%! Good luck!

Don't lose hope yet. The Illinois Supreme Court struck down the "Amazon tax" and Amazon has since reinstated all us affiliates in Illinois. That sets a good precedent for challenges in other states to these laws.

Feeling bad for you!

But you can try asking Amazon on how long this will stay or this will stay forever.
If there is any way so that they can give you commissions that you've earned.
If you know someone who is in the state where laws are not in conflict with Amazon, you can talk to that person and make an account in his name and get the money eventually. Only if the person is trustworthy!
Or else try another affiliate program.

I am right there with you, as I can't have an Amazon affiliate account since I live in Arkansas.

I was able to get around it for a while by using Skimlinks, but they have also closed my account because of pressure from Amazon.

I really wish I could remember the news article I read that basically went into detail on how the states that pass the affiliate tax end up losing a bunch of money for their state. If I can ever find it, I will come back in and link to it.

Amazon doesn't need affiliates.

Honestly, my guess is that if there is ever a national tax passed, Amazon will just close their affiliate program altogether.

Hopefully our states will change their minds on this issue.

But if you must?

Why not start promoting other retail establishments like commission junction or shareasale?

Also, best buy and target have affiliate programs you know.

Amazon isn't the only gig in town.
