Attention Domainers: ICANN Will Suspend Domain Names with "This Domain Is For Sale" as part of your

Today, I was informed about the rule and I didn't believe it.

To make sure, I did call ICANN at Los Angeles office and explained I wanted
to include "This Domain Is For Sale" in my WHOIS information.

Answer: " Do It At Your Own Risk".
Your Whois Info. have to be an exact match.
If you place "This Domain Is For Sale" anywhere as part of your information,
your domain will be suspended.
We're not actively searching for that info. but, for those that we come across,
we suspend the domain in question.

Obviously, I'm not taking any chances. At least, until I've a different version
from an expert and/or lawyer dealing with ICANN.

What do think?

A verbal "advice" from somebody who just picked up the phone might be a little weak.

I suggest that you write a letter and get a written response.

If that written letter states that it is fine you might leave it at that. Also you can and should contact a legal professional and ask for advice.

If they ICANN states it is not allowed you can ask whether certain versions are allowed, like:

For example you could write in the 2nd street address field something like
"Use Dep. 1 for customer support, Dep. for Domain sales inquiries".

That way you just give some hint. People who buy domains are not stupid. They will get the message.

ICANN has always been clear that whois data must be accurate contact information. It was never intended to be a sales platform.

In other words, not their problem.

I doubt anyone ever lost a sale because whois did not have the words "for sale" in it. If the domain is inactive or actually for sale, either advertise it on the domain itself or rely on having contact information available in your whois (i.e. don't make it private)

This is not a real problem.
